Today is National Dog Day and I can’t help but think of Buddy dog.
We adopted him when he was about two. He grew up with our kids, full of energy, mischief, and more than a few run-offs into the country fields. He was a handful in those early years, but over time something shifted.
He matured.
He settled.
He became the kind of presence that didn’t need to prove or perform, he just was.
Before we moved earlier this year, I’d often find him stretched out on the grass with our other animals, no longer chasing escape routes, but simply belonging.
And now, as his time is fading, I’m struck by how much his journey mirrors ours.
At some point, all of us outgrow the need to run, strive, and prove. But unless we pause and recalibrate who we are at the root, we can stay stuck in old patterns even when life is asking us to mature into something steadier, freer, more aligned.
That is what Identity-Level Recalibration is all about. It is the process of becoming so your outer world finally matches the inner calm you have been craving all along.
So today I am grateful, for loyal dogs, for the seasons of growth, and for the reminder that maturity is really just alignment lived out.
What has your dog taught you?
