Okay, I picked my three.

I thought about all the things I could put on this list and then remembered the whole point is NOT to make another giant list. Goodness! 🤭

So here are my three this week.

One for getting stronger. One for my nutrition. And one because I am really tired of looking at those empty fall bins.

Nothing complicated. Nothing I have to do perfectly. Just three things I know I’ll feel good about doing.

Three things. One week. I can do that.

I’m sharing a blank one too if you want to pick your three. šŸ¤Ž

I had a thought…

I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to take care of myself now that fall is here. But I don’t have the energy or need for a whole ā€œmakeoverā€.

Maybe I just need to pick three little things each week that I know make me feel good.

That’s where I am right now.

I want to get stronger. I want to pay more attention to my nutrition. Get some things cleaned out in my house. Get back into a little more of a routine and consistency.

But I don’t want any of it to feel like a chore. And I absolutely don’t want to feel guilty if I don’t do it perfectly.

No thanks. Been there, done that. šŸ˜‚

So this week I’m picking three things. That’s it.

They don’t have to be big. Just three things I know would make me feel good or that I’d feel good about getting done.

I’ll share mine tomorrow. šŸ¤Ž

If you picked three little things that would make you feel good this week, what would they be?

I had a thought…

I was sitting in my office today thinking about how much I love this room.

It’s pink, it’s pretty, it’s cozy of course, and it feels like me.

It got me thinking about how long I’ve been perfectly fine just making do with things for myself.

Moms do that a lot, don’t we?

We’ll redo our kids’ bedrooms multiple times. Make their dorm rooms and college apartments cute and buy all the things they need to make their spaces feel like home. We’ll spend the time, money and energy making things special for everyone else.

And then when it comes to us…

ā€œThis is fine. I don’t really need anything. It works.ā€šŸ˜‚ Right?

But why?

I spend so much time in this room. The only people who ever see it are on Zoom. šŸ˜‚

I deserve the comfy chair, the pink pretty rug and the things on the walls that I love. I deserve to walk into a room I spend so much time in and have it make me happy.

Even if it’s just for me.

Actually…

Especially because it’s just for me. 🩷

It’s time to stop making do with less when I’m the one it’s for.

BTW this applies to a lot more than my office. šŸ˜‰

āš ļø Updated update: Edde told me that recycling and yard waste never come the same week. In over 20 years living here I didn’t know that. Whoops! Even look across the street. 🫣

āš ļø Update: recycling didn’t come today. It’s next week. 🤭

I had a thought…

Edde is out of town, so this morning I put out the garbage, recycling and yard waste.

A very normal adult task that I am completely capable of doing. šŸ˜‚

But it made me think about all those little ā€œjobsā€ we each just naturally took on after being together for so many years.

The garbage is one of his. There are plenty more that are his and there are certainly plenty that are mine.

Edde truly does so much around here. He does way more laundry than I do, for one. šŸ˜‚

So much of what we each do just becomes part of the background of everyday life. You don’t really think about it until the other person isn’t there to do theirs.

Love shows up in such ordinary ways.

Today it looked like three different bins lined up perfectly on the sidewalk. 🩷

Happy September 1st!

Not quite summer.
Not quite fall.
Just that little shift
that says something is changing.

Cooler mornings.
Hotter coffee.
Open windows.
Pumpkins appearing
in way too many places. šŸ˜‚

September doesn’t ask us
to reinvent ourselves.

Just to slow down.
Notice all that’s good.
And get a little cozier.

Summer was fabulous.

But I’ve been waiting for you, September. šŸ‚šŸ¤Ž

August 31st. What an unforgettable summer!

Skylar and I took a walk this beautiful Monday morning, and I’m just going to go ahead and say it:

šŸ Fall starts tomorrow. šŸ

I know what the calendar says. It doesn’t matter. šŸ˜‰

The fall bins are out. I’m ready to decorate. September starts tomorrow. That’s enough for me.

Did I mention this is my fave time of year? You’re probably going to hear about it. A lot. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤Ž

We will enjoy our last official day of summer at my house because tomorrow we get cozy. šŸ‚šŸ¤Ž

Sunday morning thoughts… ā˜•ļø

I think September might actually be a better time for a reset than January.

For most of our lives, September has meant returning to routine. School starts, long summer nights wind down, schedules change, meals shift, the weather changes. Even when we no longer have kids to get ready for back to school, I think that feeling just sticks with us.

January seems to come with a long list of things we ā€œshouldā€ be doing differently. September feels more like, let’s just get back to the things that make us feel good.

Maybe that’s why I’m feeling it this year.

We had an amazing summer full of travel, lots of family time, and becoming a grandma. 🄹 Now I’m ready for home and a little routine again.

I’m using this week to work on my nutrition, food prep and schedule before starting FUEL on September 7th.

šŸ‚Ā And we’re heading into fall, my fave! šŸ‚ Of course it is. I’m a cozy, comfy homebody. šŸ˜‚

Maybe a reset doesn’t have to mean changing everything. Maybe it’s just getting back to a few things that make us feel good and cozy (always cozy).

Does September feel like a fresh start to you too? What is it about this time of year for you? šŸ¤Ž

Well…this is 54.

A lot of life. A lot of love. A lot of change. And still figuring out what I want this next chapter to look like.

I have a feeling I’m not the only one.

So hi. I’m Christina. Welcome to The Midlife Memo.

Monday morning thoughts… ā˜•ļø

I spent many years thinking routine was the boring part of life.

Now?

Matcha. Dinner already cooking in the crockpot. Putting on real clothes and shoes and actually leaving the house to go INTO the office today. šŸ˜‚

We’ve been all over lately, and I think I’m just really ready for my routine again. Regular work days and the little everyday things.

Turns out, ordinary, normal, routine days feel pretty good when you really love the life you get to come home to. šŸ¤

Happy Monday.

But I do miss my slippers….

Saturday morning coffee thoughts ā˜•ļø

I think I’m learning that miles between the people I love can absolutely stretch my heart, without taking away how much I love where I am.
