BHS Boutique
by Emma Pritchett, reporter

The BHS Humanities Class is hosting a prom-wear boutique. Why buy/rent an overpriced suit or dress when you can get one for a reasonable price? Prom dresses are only worn for a few hours, so why spend $100-$600 on an outfit. The class is also hoping that students who may not be able to afford an outfit still have the opportunity to attend. Due to the generous donations of others, they have a nice selection in many colors and sizes.
Save the time and the money and head on down to the BHS boutique. They even provide a dressing room. As Mrs. Brimer says,”It is very cute!” If anyone is interested in shopping or even donating please contact Mrs. Brimer or a member of the Humanities class.

CoronaVirus Vaccine
by Sydney Joy, reporter
Corona Virus has taken over our lives since last March. Currently, 543,000 people have died in the United States in a little over a year just from Covid-19. With this news, many of the best scientists started on a vaccine which normally can take anywhere from 10-15 years to perfect. The Covid-19 vaccine took less than one year. One of Boonville High School’s students, Olivia Gohlson, got the vaccine recently. She said “It was like a normal flu vaccine just more organized.” Olivia said she took the shot for her family, “I want to see my family more often since they are vaccinated as well. Also I hope to put less people in danger.” Some BHS students and teachers did not want to get the vaccination. 110 students and teachers were randomly surveyed and 75 students and/ or teachers said they would not choose to get it, leaving only 35 students or teachers saying yes to the vaccination. Vaccinations are still optional and becoming more available to all age groups.

State Champions
by Drew Rhorer, reporter
This past weekend the Boonville Pirates Girls Basketball team won the Class 4 State Championship. The girls started out Friday night against Benton High School but powered through playing a little rocky in an intense game. This win put them in the running for the championship on Saturday and everything changed. They came out with amazing energy and everyone distributed the ball well and played their tails off. They truly left it all out on the court. The student section was crazy, loud, and masked up to respectfully cheer the Lady Pirates on to defeat Mount Vernon 58-52. Addison Brownfield was the leading scorer with 19 points, while Kourtney Kendrick had 17 points. The girls were emotional after the game and with good reason as this year they have four seniors graduating and an amazing manager in Jordan Brackman. This team has, in my opinion, the best coach in the state; Jaryt Hunziker. He took this team all the way with his great basketball Intelligence, assisted by Coach Moore and Hayden Hunziker. The girls played their hearts out, worked hard, and should be proud. Also, everyone in the community who has supported this team is a champion. This was the first State Championship in Lady Pirate basketball history but surely won't be the last.

by Alyssa Fitzgerald, reporter
On Wednesday, March 24th all Boonville High School students and teachers will be going out into the community to do a district wide community service project. This project was created in order to give back to the community for all the support we have received throughout the last year. Teachers were able to pick from a variety of projects including sewing, painting, and trash clean up. This will provide joy to the community and be a great learning experience for the students!

The Boonville R-1 Board of Education is proud to announce that Kenya Fuemmeler has been named Boonville High School Principal effective July 1, following the retirement of Principal Tim Edwards.

Superintendent Dr. Sarah Marriott said, "The Boonville R-1 School District is excited for Ms. Kenya Fuemmeler to join our Pirate team. Ms. Fuemmeler's experience, knowledge, and care for students and staff are evident in her work and words. We truly look forward to what Ms. Fuemmeler will add to our district and Boonville High School. Mr. Edwards has excelled in creating a family environment at Boonville High School in which students and staff are priorities. We look forward to Ms. Fuemmeler continuing the strong traditions of excellence at Boonville High School and being a valued member of our team."

Ms. Fuemmeler holds experience in both public and Catholic education. She is currently in her 8th year as a principal and said that she “feels very grateful to have worked alongside talented administrators and teachers at each school along the way.” She currently serves as Helias High School Principal and President in Jefferson City, and is also currently the Interim Superintendent of Diocesan Schools.

Boonville High School is an exciting place for Ms. Fuemmeler to start a new chapter. She said, “The Boonville School District has a strong reputation for high academic standards while serving a wide variety of students. Boonville High School's commitment to both the academic achievement and extracurricular involvement of students make me excited to be a Pirate. I look forward to belonging to One Pirate Ship, One Pirate Family.”

Upon acceptance of her position, Ms. Fuemmeler said, “I would like to thank Dr. Marriott and the Boonville Board of Education for the opportunity to work alongside the teachers and staff of the high school to help ensure every student has an opportunity to reach their full potential."

Welcome to BHS, Ms. Fuemmeler!
