"There are questions here that could have huge consequences not just for Wiscasset, but for Westport, Edgecomb, Georgetown, Boothbay, Southport.”

A potential data center on Old Ferry Road in Wiscasset was not on selectmen's agenda Oct. 7, but was on the minds of Wiscasset and Westport Island residents who told the board their concerns. One concern was not about the would-be center, but a "non-disclosure" deal the town made.

Wiscasset officials were approached by a developer who wanted the property for a client. Economic Development Director Aaron Chrostowsky told commissioners Sept. 16, "This is a transformative opportunity for the town and county. We are learning more and more about the project, but we believe that this is a viable project that needs more time to develop," he said.

Chrostowsky reported the proposed data center has a $5 billion estimated valuation and would create 150-200 jobs. "That's billion with a B," he said.

Wiscasset Selectman Allisa Eason told Lincoln County commissioners Sept. 16, the town selected Old Ferry Road as its affordable housing project site because "it was pretty." But now, town officials eye something else for the Old Ferry Road property. A developer has expressed interest in the 300-acre...

“So (we did) a 30% (valuation) increase right across the board. Now once the revaluation happens, we’ll rebalance all that stuff to where it should be. But this protects the homestead exemption … It does not increase your taxes, because it’s dropping the (tax) rate.”

Wiscasset selectmen Sept. 16 set the tax rate at $13.67 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. Properties’ valuations were upped 30% across the board while the town anticipates its next town-wide revaluation, which will take a couple years, Town Manager Dennis Simmons said. The board agreed t...

“During the search, Chief Hesseltine’s uniform was contaminated with an unknown white powdery substance, now believed to be fentanyl. Mr. Bronn physically resisted arrest, resulting in an injury that required medical attention. CLC Ambulance was called and arrived to treat Mr. Bronn. While assisting EMS, Chief Hesseltine received a minor laceration on his forearm from the guardrail and moments later reported feeling light-headed. The paramedic on scene assessed Chief Hesseltine while Officer Barnes bandaged his injury. Chief Hesseltine subsequently became unresponsive, and Narcan was administered by Officer Barnes. Chief Hesseltine regained consciousness after receiving the Narcan and was transported to Miles Hospital for further observation.”
