WEATHER SUMMARY for November 2025:

Here we are again, the first day of December already. Here’s how this year’s November weather compares to recent years.

(NOTE: References to “warmest” or “coldest” refer to the years 2010 and later since I only have data for November going back to 2010. For wind and rain my records only go back to 2021.)

The average temperature for the month was 39.0°F, the same as the November average for the years 2011-2024. Our warmest November was in 2022 which had an average temperature of 43.1°F. Our coolest November was in 2018 when the average for the month was just 35°.

The coldest night this November was 22°F which is now the record warmest, 1° higher than the previous record of 21° which occurred in 2016 and 2024. The coldest November temperature occurred in 2018 when we had an overnight low of 5°F.

The warmest it got this November was 58°, tied with our previously coolest November daytime high set in 2023 and well below the 77° we experienced last year.

As far as trends go, data for 2010 through this year show a warming trend in the overnight low and overall average temperatures with a slight cooling trend in the daytime high.

This November was the driest of the last 5 years with a total rainfall of just 3.2 inches. Last year we received about 3.4 inches of rainfall which was previously the lowest since I started tracking rainfall in 2021. Our wettest November occurred in 2022 with 5.8 inches.

Winds were a little lighter than typical with a 2.6 mph average, although the 33 mph maximum was the same as last year and fairly typical.

Overall, an average but bit drier November.

Our rain yesterday amounted to a little more than expected, close to 1/2 inch. Hopefully the snowstorm that will begin tomorrow won't exceed expectations. I would prefer that it fall short, but we shall see!

What we do get will be very dependent on how wet the snow is. With 6 or 7 tenths inch precipitation we would see over 6 inches if it were the light and fluffy variety. I do expect 3-5 inches over most of the peninsula with less down around Newagen, probably around 1 inch there.

Good morning! Winter storm watches have been issued and a winter storm is expected tomorrow. Heavier bouts of snow are possible Tuesday afternoon, with up to 10 inches of snow likely across the area. Here's a look at what we are expecting tomorrow.

WINTER STORM WATCH

Right now 6+ inches seems unlikely, but I do expect the ground will be white everywhere on the peninsula including Southport.

More winter weather is expected on Tuesday, with wide uncertainty in snowfall amounts still. Generally, odds are pretty good that most people in the area will get at least 3 inches of snow, but some could get a lot more. Here's a look at your odds of 3, 6, or 12" of snow Tues.

THE WEEK AHEAD (11/30/25):

There are a few raindrops and snowflakes falling this morning, but our precipitation will be transitioning to all rain this afternoon for this afternoon and tonight. We are looking at some unseasonably cold temperatures many days during the coming 2 weeks and wind chill will be an issue. Be prepared to dress accordingly!

TEMPERATURES: Daytime highs are expected to be much colder for much of the coming first 2 weeks of December. Tomorrow is expected to have a high in the upper 30s, but daytime highs for the next 3 days will be around 30° and Friday will struggle to get above 20° much of the day. Saturday may get into the 40s for a high but the very cold weather returns Sunday. Overnight lows are likely to be in the 20s until Thursday night when we are likely to see our first night with single digit temperatures throughout the peninsula. We are likely to see a couple more single digit nights beginning next Sunday night.

PRECIPITATION: Rain today and tonight isn’t expected to amount to very much, under ¼ inch most likely. Our first significant snowfall of the season arrives Tuesday with heavy wet snow expected to fall through the afternoon and well into Tuesday night. Around ½ inch of precipitation is expected which is likely to yield around 3-5 inches of snow due to the heavy/wet nature expected. We could see another inch or so of snowfall on Thursday. Saturday could be stormy as well but it may be rain or a mix rather than accumulating snow. We’ll have a better idea about that come midweek.

WINDS: The coming week is expected to continue being fairly windy with Tuesday the sole exception. Winds most days are expected to be in the 10-15 mph range with gusts around 30 mph most days with higher gusts today and tomorrow. Tuesday winds are expected to be light, mostly under 5 mph, with gusts to around 15 mph.

MARINE FORECAST: A GALE WARNING is in effect for the period from 4PM this afternoon through 10AM tomorrow morning due to southwest winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt and seas 6 to 9 ft expected. Except for Tuesday, seas are expected to be at least 3 ft through Thursday.

TROPICAL ATLANTIC: The tropics are still quiet on this, the final day of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, with nothing expected during the next 7 days.

SPACE WEATHER: There is a REALLY big sunspot that will be facing earth soon. Expect reports of solar flares and potential auroras in the coming days.

Looks like I may have to increase our likely snowfall from the Tuesday storm a little when I prepare tomorrow's week ahead post. It still doesn't look like a major storm but 3-4 inches in the northern portions of the peninsula is what is indicated at the moment.

ARRIVING SOON: Our first actual snowstorm of the season.

It seems unanimous that we will be getting our first actual snowstorm Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night. The big question, of course, is how much snow? It is too early for any high confidence forecast.

Accuweather is forecasting 3-6 inches for Boothbay. The ECMWF is indicating around 2.5 inches over pretty much the entire peninsula with Southport getting around 1-1.5 inches. NWS hasn't made a snow depth/amount forecast as yet, but their GFS model is currently indicating accumulated precipitation over 2 inches I have very little to no confidence in the GFS forecast this far in advance!

A lot will depend on how heavy (dense) the snow turns out to be. It is unlikely to be "fluffy" with the air temperature within a few degrees of freezing. At this point, 2-3 inches seems like a reasonable guess to me.

Beware of winter-like hazards as the temperatures drop!

No surprise that a GALE WARNING has been issued for the period of 10AM tomorrow to 7AM Saturday. The Small Craft Advisory will expire at 10AM tomorrow when the Gale Warning takes effect.

Brief rain and/or snow showers are likely tomorrow. Shouldn't amount to much.

Still looks some rain on Sunday, showers in the AM steady rain in the afternoon. A total of a tenth to a quarter inch accumulation is likely.

It's also looking more like we will be getting a bit of snow, probably arriving late Tuesday or Tuesday night. There is a large disagreement on how much at this point, but at least a couple of inches of snow is possible.
