Hey, Rams fans! Don't forget tomorrow's home football game when Borrego hosts Foothills Christian High School at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students ages 13-18. Students with ASB cards and kids ages 6-12 get in for $1. Kids 5 and under, American Legion members who show their membership cards and Booster Club members get in free.

The asset ad-hoc committee of the Borrego Water District will meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 6 to discuss the possible sale of real property and/or assets belonging to the BWD. The public is invited to attend and provide input. The meeting takes place at the BWD office, 806 Palm Canyon Drive.

There's a vacancy on Borrego Springs Unified School District's board of trustees, a perfect chance for someone who feels our schools could improve to step up and walk the walk. Must be resident voter in school district boundaries. Applications are available at www.bsusd.com or superintendent's office. Must be received by 4:30 p.m., Oct. 28. Candidates will be interviewed at Nov. 2 special board meeting. Time? District didn't say; may be 5 p.m. like regular meetings. Check at district.

Cal Fire advises that the portion of Hwy. 78 closed by the Great fire is set to reopen this morning at 10. Fire has burned 2,000 acres, but no structures and is 40 percent contained.

A section of Hwy. 78 on the Banner Grade is closed due to the Great fire. Closure is between Banner store and S2 turnoff into Shelter Valley so equipment can be moved to fight 1200 acre fire burning near Granite Mtn., off the south side of 78 and south of Shelter Valley. SV Vol. Fire. Dept. Chief John Bennett reports there are no plans to evacuate that community as of 9 a.m. Sunday, but winds continue to change directions and situation is being monitored.

The National Weather Service reported that at 240 p.m. its radar indicated thunderstorms dropped up to 3 inches of rain just northeast of Mt Laguna.
Agua Caliente, Canebrake and area washes were affected.

Due to a one-time staffing limitation at Borrego Springs post office, the local papers will not be mailed in Borrego Springs, resulting in a one-day delivery delay. They are scheduled to arrive Thursday, Sept. 29, which is the actual publication date.

Dr. Narciso Iglesias, principal of Borrego Springs Middle and High schools, is quitting his post due to "a personal necessity," according to a letter sent today from school district Superintendent Dr. Carmen Garcia to "Borrego Springs Colleagues" and community members.
