A scary incident at a Florida 10K last weekend has changed the way we think about law enforcement at road races forever. At the Skyway 10K, Trooper Toni Schuck of the Florida Highway Patrol risked her own life to protect the crowd of thousands of runners from a drunk driver. When Trooper Schuck received word that a BMW was zooming past roadblocks and about to enter the closed-off bridge, she realized she was the last line of defense between the drunk driver and the field of runners. Without hesitating, she drove her patrol vehicle directly into the path of the BMW, likely saving countless lives, but landing herself in the hospital with serious injuries.

There aren’t many races as demanding as a Triathlon, and athletes will have to muster everything they’ve got to make it down the home stretch. It’s an event so tough on the body that it’s been known to bring the most tenacious of competitors to their knees at or before the finish line. It takes guts to carry on from that point, and while we encourage runners to stop and check themselves if they feel overwhelmed or overheated. In a recent instagram video from .daily, one runner decided to overcome the odds and crawl to the finish, and we’re inspired to strive for that level of dedication to our craft.

Runners, you’ve got to take care of your feet! They’re the first line of defense between the earth and your body, and without strengthening them, you’re putting yourself at risk for injury.
