Why are brands confident and comfortable giving away such valuable content? ↓

Professionals spend years of their life studying their craft, just to get off the ground.

They spend the rest of their lives practicing and perfecting that craft.

Offering valuable insights, tips, tricks, etc. on social media is a means of showcasing that knowledge and experience.

Sure, followers of the brand will find value in this content, and may be able to execute some of those tips and tricks, to a certain degree.

But the reality is that those years and years of experience make a massive difference in HOW those tips and tricks are executed.

An entrepreneur may look at brand strategy and brand design as a means to an end. It’s a means for creating and growing a business.

To a brand strategist or designer, brand strategy and design IS the end. It’s their passion. It’s the entirety of their business.

So, while the occasional carousel of insights might get you pointed in the right direction regarding what to do, it will never substitute for the countless hours of experience actually doing.

In other words: It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.

Brands that successfully grow a presence on social media all have something in common. ↓

They believe themselves to be solutions to problems in their niche. They create content that has value to their audience.

What they don’t do is view their Followers as a solution to the brand’s problem.

“If I just had more followers, I’m sure I could sell my product or service.”

This mindset doesn’t get your far. Your followers can’t help you, unless you help them first. You have to be the solution, not the problem.

Form RELATIONSHIPS with your “followers.” Create the community, and then you’ll get the results you’re after.

Logo inspiration rarely comes easy. ↓

You want your logo to catch eyes, generate curiosity from your target audience, and stand out against a crowded marketplace.

But, you also want a logo that you are proud of – one that represents the values of your brand, and tells a story.

All too often, we might be tempted to try and say too much with a logo. This can lead to logos that are “too busy,” and appear amateurish.

What can you do? Get creative with your process!

Ask yourself first, “What does my brand stand for? If my brand were a person, what would that person value?”

With those answers, your search begins.

Google the follow up questions:
What [animals, objects, fonts, colors, etc.] convey [elegance, companionship, reliability, wisdom, etc]?

Make a note of these search results, and play with these ideas a bit to see what you come up with!

Are moodboards really necessary in design projects? ↓

Moodboards serve many purposes in the design process, whether for branding, product, UX/UI, etc.

They are a tool for gathering inspiration and generating creative energy.

They also act as a compass of sorts, providing direction and focus for your designs.

Moodboards also serve as a means for translating language into visuals – which is often one of the biggest challenges in design. They provide the visual “definitions” for the descriptive words you or your clients are trying to capture in the deisgn process.

In Brand Identity design, much of the focus is on establishing brand colors, font pairings and a consistency in the visual assets, such as icons and illustrations used on the website or in marketing materials.

I often like to approach these elements separately.

Attempting to curate visuals that satisfy all of these areas can be a challenge – in effect, you set yourself on a search to find someone who has already completed the same work you are trying to create yourself!

Instead, try dedicating a moodboard to typography that matches the brand description, then another that focuses on color, and a third on icons/visuals.

From there, pulling together elements of each board to create one central mood reference may be easier.

The best creative process is whichever one works best for you. Experiment with different approaches to dial in on what works best for you, and use that experience to take your branding to new heights!

The undeniable truth about obstacles: ↓

They always come with opportunities.

It's an extraordinary power that you give yourself when you recognize that beyond every challenge you face is a better version of yourself.

A better version of your brand.

A better version of your business.

Keeping this mindset can be difficult, and this past year has certainly highlighted that.
