𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗚𝗢𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗗𝗢𝗠

𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱. 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

In today's Gospel, Jesus gets personal. He looks at His disciples and says, "𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗮𝗺?"

He wants a relationship. He is asking directly: "𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?"

Peter answers.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 (𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦) 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞.

He says, "𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵."

𝐇𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭.

Let's munimuni on Peter's story first.

He was the one who walked on water.

When soldiers came to arrest Jesus, he was the one who pulled out a sword.

He was in Jesus' innermost circle, one of only three who witnessed the Transfiguration.

He wasn't just a follower. He was all in!

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻, 𝗶𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 "𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗛𝗶𝗺" 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆.

I ponder about Peter's story a lot.

Because if Peter, the man Jesus literally called "𝘁𝗵𝗲 r𝗼𝗰𝗸," 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗲.

Not the person who's been going to Mass daily.

Not the prayer warrior in the family.

Not the one who others look to for strength.

𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻.

Maybe it made you feel like you could never go back.

A decision you made in secret.

Words you said.

𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲.

A few weeks after the resurrection, Jesus finds Peter on the shore. Peter had gone back to fishing.

And Jesus doesn't open with a lecture. He even cooks breakfast!!! Then He looks at Peter and asks, three times, once for every denial, "Do you love me?"

𝗡𝗼𝘁 "𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂?" 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 "𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲?"

God does not need you to "earn" your way back. He meets you where you are.

"Do you love me?" "Feed my sheep."

That's restoration. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁.

As it says in Lamentations 3:22 (NLT): "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning."

Peter's story didn't end at the courtyard where he wept.

The Church was not built on someone who never failed.

It was built on someone who failed badly, came back, and loved Jesus more fiercely for it.

So can yours be.

The question isn't whether you've fallen. The question is the same one Jesus asked Peter on that shore.

"𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲?"

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻.

Pray with me... Lord, I come to You like Peter, someone who loves You but has let You down.

Thank You that You never stopped calling me Your own, even when I walked away.

Restore me, use me, and remind me today that Your mercy is bigger than my worst mistake. Amen.

𝗜'𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗠𝗬 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗜 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗜𝗠

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩, 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙔𝙤𝙪.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩, 𝙄 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙮.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙬𝙖𝙮.

Can I be honest?

Out of the three Persons of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is the one I understand the least.

The Father, I can picture. I lovingly call Him, Abba.

The Son walked this earth and I know His words. I call Him, Jesus. My redeemer. Lover of my soul.

But the Holy Spirit?

For the longest time, all I had was a… white bird???

Then I learned the Hebrew word. 𝗥𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗵.

𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱.

𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵.

𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆.

The same invisible force that moves the clouds, fills my lungs, and hovered over chaos before anything existed.

That is what God's Spirit is.

Not a bird.

Not a feeling.

And suddenly everything I thought I knew became clearer.

But here is what I have to keep reminding myself.

𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗼𝗱.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺.

𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

And that changes everything about how I approach Him.

I do not just tap into the Holy Spirit like a resource.

I encounter Him like a Person.

How do we know He is a Person? Because He speaks. He teaches. He guides.

He intercedes for us when we do not even have the words.

An impersonal force does not love, teach, or will. Only a Person does.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱'𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

That hit me differently.

Because here is the thing about "𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗵".

He gave Joseph dreams and wisdom.

He gave the prophets eyes to see history the way God sees it.

The Holy Spirit has always been about empowerment for a specific purpose.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 "𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁" 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

He dwells in us through Baptism.

He strengthens us in Confirmation.

He sanctifies us through grace.

He draws us into communion with the Father through the Son.

This is what we profess in the Creed.

He is the Lord and giver of life.

He enters us.

I know this sounds like theology.

But this is what it means for me when I have absolutely no idea what I’m about to say…

It is not me.

Before I pray for anyone or before I speak, I ask for the Spirit's guidance because I need to “𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲”. (cue: Holy Spirit Come by Feast Worship)

It never was.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀...

𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀...

𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴... that is not my personality.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁.

My prayer is an old hymn that I keep coming back to:

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩, 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙔𝙤𝙪.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩, 𝙄 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙮.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙬𝙖𝙮.

Simple words. But I mean them every time.

The Holy Spirit is still hovering.

Over your chaos and your in-between seasons.

Not waiting for you to get it together.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 (God is watching how we love the people we usually overlook)

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲?

It is often easy to love God in church, in prayer, or in religious activities.

The greater challenge is to love Him in the family, workplace, community, and online spaces.

Especially when we are tired, criticized, dealing with difficult people (or hungry/sleepy even hangry!).

It is harder to love someone who has hurt us, disappointed us, or tested our patience before breakfast ‼️

Perhaps love today looks like...

❤ listening patiently
❤ forgiving someone who offended you
❤ speaking truth without cruelty
❤ refusing gossip and prejudice
❤ caring for the elderly, the poor, and the lonely
❤ showing kindness even when no one notices

Perhaps it means apologizing first, listening instead of arguing.

Choosing not to answer an angry message with another angry message.

Today, take one small step.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚

Some of us are not rejecting God. We are simply postponing Him.

We say, “𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙮.”

“𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣.”

But in the Parable of the Great Feast, the guests were invited, yet they allowed their work, possessions, and personal concerns to keep them away. (Luke 14:15-24)

Then, in today's Gospel, the Parable of the Wedding Banquet, the king invites everyone, both good and bad.

This means that God’s mercy is not reserved for people who have never failed. (Matthew 22:1-14)

He calls the wounded, the ashamed, the tired, and the lost.

But the guests must wear the proper wedding garment.

Faith is not only about going to church. It is about allowing God to change the way we live. The wedding garment is a heart clothed in love for God and love for others.

I once heard someone say, ““𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙞𝙭 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙂𝙤𝙙.”

But that is like saying, “𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙙.””

𝗪𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲.

𝗪𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀.

Maybe your first step is a quiet prayer tonight. Maybe it is returning to Sunday Mass.

Maybe it is going to Confession. Maybe it is forgiving someone you have avoided for years.

You do not have to take every step today. Just take one step toward the Lord.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨?

Be honest, have you asked this question while attending Mass?

Before we answer that, I have another question...

Have you ever felt this struggle? Knowing what's good and yet you choose what’s bad for you?

🫣 I said I would pray. I mindlessly scrolled instead.
🫣 I said I'd be patient. I got angry again.
🫣 I said this time would be different. I wouldn’t fall into temptation. I fell again.

Saint Paul felt this too, and he was honest enough to write it down: 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗱𝗼. Romans 7:19.

2,000 years later and it’s still relevant, because this is our fallen nature.

This is what it means to be human.

And Jesus knew it. He said it plainly: "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸."

He didn't shame Paul for it.

He doesn't shame us either.

So... back to the question, "𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨?"

This is one of the reasons why 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁...

It is a 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹, 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁, a source of actual 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 for our actual struggles.

Because 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝. We've tried that. It doesn't work.

(Not just as a ritual to check off on Sunday)

Jesus offers something better: 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗨𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧.

𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘆.

Every time you receive the Eucharist…

These aren't just ideas. They're practical.

Saint John Bosco said it plainly: "𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀? 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻."

Not because God is keeping score.

𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩. 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩.

We are not people who have it all together.

𝙒𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠, 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩, 𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣.

And every single time, God, our Lord Jesus Christ, gives it.

So the next time we participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass may we remember… the question isn't "𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨?"

It’s "𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙢 𝙄 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮?"

𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗘𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗗 𝗕𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗗 (𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿)

Sometimes, the person who needs to hear “𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻” is 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿.

During a Roman victory parade, a servant would stand behind the victorious general and whisper: “𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻.” (Memento Mori)

It was a reminder not to let applause turn into pride.

That line came back to me while reading today’s first reading:

“Because you are haughty of heart, you say, ‘I am a god!’... 𝗬𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗱.” Ezekiel 28:2

Grabe. Natamaan ako. Hindi naman ako prince of Tyre. Haha!

But there are days when I act as if I can do everything by myself.

When I set my mind on something, I try to control every detail.

𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻. I'm a recovering workaholic.

Sadly, an addiction that's praised in the world.

There are so many times, I become so focused on finishing everything that I barely notice how exhausted I am. I get sick. I even get rushed to the hospital.

I was praying, but honestly, I was not surrendering.

I was asking God to bless my plans while refusing to let Him change them.

And that is the danger.

𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀.

Hard work is good. Ambition is not wrong. But we are not meant to live as if everything depends on us.

Today, I’m reminded to take one step back toward the Lord. Rest. Pray honestly. Release one thing I’ve been desperately trying to control.

𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲.

My worth is not measured by how much I accomplish while exhausted.

God does not need me to carry the whole world.

𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬, 𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗝𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗜𝗠

𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

“When the young man heard this word, 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, for he had many possessions.”

As I continue to munimuni on the Gospel about the rich young man, I remember this scene in The Chosen where 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 ‼️

Jesus said, “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲.”

I can feel the longing in His voice. Not disappointment. 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴. 😭

In this scene, Jesus even asked before they left for the mission. “𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲?” 🥺

There is something 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 about 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and still being 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽.

Sometimes, the hardest thing to surrender is the life we worked so hard to build.

Just like Nicodemus, the rich young man came to Jesus with a sincere heart.

He had followed the commandments and tried to live a good life. Yet he still felt that something was missing.

So he asked the question many of us carry quietly: “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸?”

Jesus 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗺 and 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗺.

“Go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor… then 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘, 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪 𝗠𝗘.”

And then comes the heartbreaking verse: ““When the young man heard this word, 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, for he had many possessions.”

𝗛𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲. 𝗛𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 ‼️

And 𝙮𝙚𝙩 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮... like Nicodemus. 🥺

Not because Jesus did not love him, but because he held something so tightly that he could not open his hands.

I understand that young man more than I want to admit.

𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀, but sometimes 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 ‼️

𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲, but 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 that leads to peace.

𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, but I 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.

𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻, but 𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

The young man like Nicodemus walked away grieving because Jesus touched the place where they were most attached.

The Gospel does not say that Jesus stopped loving him when he walked away.
That matters.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗳𝘂𝗹.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀.

Maybe the Lord is asking you to surrender not your possessions, but your pride, your resentment, your fear, your unhealthy attachment, or the version of life you insist on controlling.

Today, take one small step back toward Him.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗼𝘄.

𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

Jesus does not ask us to surrender because He wants to take life away from us, but because 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

Jesus: “𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.”

“𝗧𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲? 𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗜 𝗮𝗺?”

Jesus: “𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝗽.”
“𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻... 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.”

“𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝘀, 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘂𝘀.“

As I munimuni on the Gospel today about the rich young man, I remember this scene in The Chosen where Jesus asked Nicodemus to follow Him.

And Nico hesitates.

Not because he does not believe. Not because he does not love God.

He hesitates because following would cost him something he was not ready to give up.

He couldn’t say yes because of the life he built and his attachments. (He held a high position. He lived a comfortable life.)

I sat there and thought, that is me sometimes.

If I am honest, there are areas in my life where 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴.

And I am still in awe of how 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁.

He sees 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 the surface.

In the Gospel today, Jesus did not just notice that the young man owned many things.

𝗛𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗺.

"𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝗲." (Matthew 6:21)

It was not really about his possessions. It was about what his possessions had quietly become.

😇 A person may possess money without worshiping money.
😇 A person may own a home without placing security above God.
😇 A person may have dreams without allowing their career or success to become an idol.

So maybe the real question is not "What do I have?"

BUT…

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁?”

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁?”

What makes me say “𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝘂... 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.”

❌ For one person, it may be an addiction or a secret sin.
❌ For another, a relationship or comfort.
❌ For another, the need to control, money, reputation, or a career.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝗿 “𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴” 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.

So, ask God directly, "Lord, what am I still protecting from You?"

He will not shame you for the answer. He already loves you in it.

He is just waiting for you to open the door.

𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗥 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨'𝗥𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛. 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗦𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗬.

𝗪𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵.

𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲?

Story time! 👀 (𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 15, 𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘬, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.)

I didn't even know what that place was called the first time I saw it.

I just knew someone was calling me near.

I was an absolute mess.

I was looking for love and acceptance in all the wrong places. 🙃

I just wanted somewhere to belong.

The enemy had convinced me that family didn't really love me. And I believed it.

So I spent another night at the "cool friend group" house doing "cool things." I finally left around 9 PM, too afraid to go home.

Afraid my parents would find out I had skipped class and had been drinking again.

So I wandered the streets. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙬, 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙝.

𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙄 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚. 𝙄 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙩.

But 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙.

It was comforting inside. I sat down, and there It was.

Something beautiful that looked like the sun, and in the center of it was a tiny white circle.

I didn't know it was called a monstrance.

I didn't know that tiny white circle was Him.

𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆.

I was wasting my life, and yet Jesus had already made the first move. (𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝟱:𝟴)

That's the Holy Spirit. That was our Lord, calling me, leading me, drawing me in before

I even knew His name.

I sat there and felt something I had never felt before.

𝗔𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁.

I had no idea what an adoration chapel was.

But 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆, 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲.

I had heard about Jesus my whole life.

I had been receiving Him in the Eucharist every Sunday.

But it was in Adoration that 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗶𝗺..

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨, and that difference changes everything.

That's what Adoration does.

It doesn't just give you a quiet place to sit.

It gives you an encounter. And 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀.

Mine is proof.

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Because when you sit before the Eucharist, you don't just visit Jesus.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝟱𝟬 or 𝟲𝟬+ 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗧𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗨𝗦 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗗'𝗦 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 (𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆)

She was too old to hope anymore.

Back then, a woman who couldn't have children was called cursed! Imagine carrying that label for decades.

Ponder for a moment, all the pregnancy announcements, baby showers (or whatever it was called back then), and baptisms she had to experience.

And get this, she wasn't unfaithful during the wait. Scripture says she and her husband Zechariah were righteous, walking blamelessly in the Lord's commands. Her faithfulness was never the problem.

Her name is Elizabeth.

I think about her whenever I catch myself asking God why He's taking so long with something I've prayed for.

A job. A promotion. A relationship. Healing. We all have a version of that "Waiting Room". For months or years we keep asking God the same question. And silence is what we get.

𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀.

At the right time, God gave Elizabeth, John the Baptist.

𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 "𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆" 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹.

John, would prepare people for Jesus. Her family’s story became part of God’s plan of salvation! Elizabeth could not see the whole picture at the beginning.

𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗔𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱, “𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.”

𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

“And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Pray with me... Lord, give me Elizabeth's patience when Your timing feels too slow for me to bear. Help me trust that nothing is wasted and nothing is impossible with You.
