Out to Lunch Records Out to Lunch Records

A creative collective exploring experimental music and art. All things avant, absurd, and oppositional are welcomed.

Here at Out to Lunch Records...

We seek to challenge, innovate, and explore new ways of creating and engaging on a musical and extra-musical level. The spirit of Dada and DIY are present and encouraged. Operating as a creative collective, Out to Lunch is not a genre or aesthetic specific music label, and that will be reflected in our output and artists alike. Out to Lunch Records was formed out o

f a natural progression of collaborations and friendships in and around the Boston music scene, arising as a creative solution to a vastly changing musical landscape. Follow us on Instagram

How are we paying for this? Support small-owned, independent music labels and donate now at www.patreon.com/outtolunchrecords. As of right now, we’ve operated on a budget of $0. We began with a creative impetus to share our work with others in new ways, leveraging one another’s talents amidst the rapid change and evolving problems that freelance and independent musicians are faced with. Throughout 2020, we have used personal funds while sharing our talents generously with others – and others with us – to create a mini system and creative experience out of our existing musical circle. As soon as we have the funding, we intend to pay those involved with helping us begin. As we release music and distribute art & albums digitally, starting in January 2021, we intend to fund the label and its artists more extensively to further build the label. Once live music returns, you can expect updates on our calendar for live events from our artists. Stay posted here and on our social media for further announcements regarding releases, live streams, videos, content, and more. If you are interested in donating to Out to Lunch Records, we thank you in advance. For those who donate or subscribe to our newsletter “Lunch Break”, we’ll be sharing exclusive incentives, such as small handmade gifts as a thank you for your support.

“Look, we like a lot of the FiFac releases, but Mount Summer is easily our favorite...Made as a companion album to a collection of short stories by Travis Dahlke (called, yes, Mount Summer), these songs are just as vivid and compelling as any story you might read. Abstract, but built with plenty of context clues to keep it grounded (like the stir of crickets in GLAK GLAK GLAK), Mount Summer is a great record to let your imagination wander around to.”

The stories of Mount Summer delve into people and towns left too long in the sun. They linger in the impermanence of beach communities and then follow their sunburned tourists back to the places they tried to leave.

Guitars on 2 & 5 and Synth on Track 4 - Travis Dahlke

“When Travis Dahlke approached me about creating this soundtrack, he was very open to letting me have the freedom to interpret the themes and moods of each collection, but one phrase that came up frequently was “beach goth.” There are definite moments of that with the distorted bass kicking off the EP as synth foams rise and fall, or the slow dirge of drums and chopped guitars at the close. But a soundtrack for a book is difficult because there are no visuals or pacing to work off of. I thought it best to read through all the stories and write down as many things related to the sounds and environment - whether that be the very frequent beach locations or a dumpster fire. Anything that could be used in the compositions to call back to the stories, but also as accompaniment to the instrumentation. Sounds and environment sequenced and interacting with the music.” -FiFac on the creation of the Mount Summer Original Soundtrack.
