I don’t think I realized how deep I was in survival mode until I stopped caring about my hair. And if you know me, that’s saying a lot.
As a former hairstylist, my hair has always been a huge part of who I was. I’ve been coloring it and changing it up since I was a teenager so the fact that I went over a year without touching the color or cutting it should’ve been a pretty big clue.
After having three babies in three years, it just became one more thing I didn’t have the energy for.
And then there was the hair itself 😳
I’ve always had fine hair but I’ve also A LOT of it. It may not look like a lot but trust me, it’s deceiving. And before anyone comes for me… yes, I know a lot of people would gladly take that problem 🫣 But after each pregnancy, instead of postpartum hair loss, mine just kept getting thicker. It got to the point where there was just too much of it. It was heavy, it was overstimulating and throwing it into a bun every day didn’t feel like a choice anymore. I had to.
Obviously, I’m still a mom of 3 little kids so I’m still going to throw my hair into a bun most days. The difference is that now it just feels so much more manageable. When I want to wear it down, it actually feels like an option again. It doesn’t feel so heavy or so overstimulating anymore and that was really the whole point.
I think that’s what I’ve been realizing lately. Getting myself back hasn’t been one big moment. It’s really just been all the little things that have slowly started adding up.
So thank you, Alessandra, for doing what you do best. I’m especially thankful for the one hour escape from the chaos and the much needed giggle sesh 😊
