The Berklee Popular Music Institute (BPMI) is an immersive education program that takes you from the classroom to the festival stage. BPMI students interface with all facets of the music industry, including working in A&R, artist development, recording, booking, promotion, social media, sponsorship, and live shows.
Students will learn how to navigate careers in the ever-changing music industry as they hone their skills in communication, marketing, promotion, and live music. Curriculum activities are designed in collaboration with today's top industry figures to reflect contemporary trends and practices in the music industry.
BPMI students will be given the opportunity to:
find and develop artists,
budget a tour,
book and promote concerts,
place festival holds,
design merchandise,
develop press releases,
build and maintain all social media platforms, and much more.
The capstone of the curriculum includes opportunities for students to participate at prestigious festivals and industry conferences. Students will travel to festivals such as Lollapalooza, Osheaga, the Governors Ball, and Music Midtown, where they will act as artist managers, production and tour managers, and artist media representatives. Students will also be given the opportunity to attend and network at some of the largest live music industry events such as the Billboard Live Music Summit and Pollstar Live.
Capping off two semesters of preparation, BPMI artists hit the road each summer to take the stages at some of North America's most popular summer festivals. Bands travel to festivals such as Lollapalooza (Chicago, Illinois), the Governors Ball (New York, New York), and Osheaga (Montreal, Canada), where they get the full artist treatment, from trailers and catering to playing 60-foot stages to thousands of potential fans.
Get to know the BPMI artists who earned festival placements for spring/summer 2019 here.
