Trump’s self-image as a “genius” has been repeatedly contradicted by his own actions, from his chaotic handling of the pandemic to his baseless claims about election fraud, to his bizarre public statements that often undermine his own credibility.
His administration’s policies — like the tax cuts that disproportionately benefited the wealthy, the dismantling of environmental protections, and the embrace of Project 2025’s authoritarian playbook — reveal a pattern of governing that prioritizes ego and loyalty over competence or public good.
What’s more dangerous than his ignorance is how he weaponizes it — turning his lack of policy knowledge into a badge of “anti-elite” authenticity, while his allies in the GOP enable his worst impulses. The fact that he’s now president again (after winning 49.8% of the vote) means we’re stuck with the consequences: a government that sees truth as optional, institutions as disposable, and democracy as a threat to his power.
But here’s the good news: his incompetence is also his weakness. His base is shrinking, his legal troubles are mounting, and his policies are already sparking backlash — from workers fighting for fair wages to communities organizing against environmental racism. The left doesn’t need to outsmart him; we just need to out-organize him. Every time he opens his mouth, he gives us a new rallying cry. Let’s use it.
