Jennifer Stark‑Blumenthal, author of Poles and Jews: A Call for Myth Reconstruction is inviting you for a powerful conversation on the political and cultural forces shaping public memory in Poland today.

You will explore Chapter 20 of her book: “Myth Reconstruction and the Backlash in Poland”—a chapter that examines how shifting politics, historical denial, and rising nationalism have reshaped narratives around Polish‑Jewish relations and Holocaust history.

Stark‑Blumenthal traces how these pressures impact collective understanding and why honest historical study matters now more than ever.

Our last — but certainly not least — review of the year.
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a book bringing you home, especially when you can’t return or when home is no longer a safe place.
It’s good to know that the pages of a book can still take you there.

Congratulations to Pavel on this beautiful review, which can be explored here:

📚 In Memory of Galina Lembersky

We’re very sad to share that Galina Lembersky, co-author of Like a Drop of Ink in a Downpour: Memories of Soviet Russia and our friend, passed away on Friday, November 21.

Together with her daughter, Yelena Lembersky, Galina brought to life a powerful memoir of resilience, memory, and life in the Soviet Union. Her words and spirit will continue to live on through this book.

Our thoughts are with Yelena and her family during this difficult time. 💙

🌿 November 20, 2025 – 115 years since Leo Tolstoy’s passing 🌿

Today we honor the life journey of Leo Tolstoy—not only the author of War and Peace and Anna Karenina, but also a radical thinker, educator, and dissenter whose voice still resonates powerfully in our time.

📚 This year, Academic Studies Press proudly presents two new volumes that uncover Tolstoy’s lesser‑known sides:

✨ Leo Tolstoy’s Writings for Young Children (edited and translated by Michael R. Katz) – For the first time in English, a complete annotated translation of Tolstoy’s revolutionary primers and stories for children, revealing his deep commitment to literacy and education.

✨ The Power of Dissent by Ani Kokobobo – A bold re‑examination of Tolstoy as a peace activist who resists easy answers, offering a methodology of dissent and independent thought urgently relevant today.

Tolstoy reminds us that literature is not only art, but also education, resistance, and dialogue with the future. On this day of remembrance, we celebrate the Tolstoy who taught children to read, challenged authority, and invited us to think differently.
