Boston Main Streets Gala 2014 Awards at the Strand Theatre 6/26/14

On June 26, 2014, Mayor Martin J. Walsh, together with Department of Neighborhood Development Director Sheila Dillon and emcee Susan Wornick, attended the 18th annual Boston Main Streets Awards. At the event, he presented awards to the Boston Main Streets volunteers and businesses of the year, and highlighted significant new funds from the Boston Main Streets Foundation. The ceremony, which took place at the historic Strand Theatre in Dorchester, featured entertainment by the Fiddle Head Theatre’s cast of Aida.

Pilgrim Church Flea Market - an Open Air Market that Works in Uphams Corner

The Pilgrim Flea Market, in operation for decades, is an open air market institution in the Uphams Corner community. Not for everyone, the market sports vendors whose primary language is other than English as is also true for the customers. Vendors with a no-nonsense attitude have put up with customers wanting "something for nothing" for too long but are still willing to haggle and "offer deals." Well worth even the atmosphere, this mini-shopping mall is a great way to spend a Saturday morning - 540 Columbia Rd in Dorchester.

Neighborhood Watch: Area 324 Meeting Notes for 6/22/14
The Area 324 Neighborhood Watch meeting for June 2014 covered a wide range of topics including the problem property at 25 Brookford Street, steps to prevent gentrification, National Night Out, the Cleanest Streets competition and the 180 Coalition. Area 324 is a small but active and committed group of residents who are diligent about addressing problem issues in their community and actively participating in local community initiatives. Their minutes are an opportunity to learn a lot about community life.
