This fall, join us we explore the God(s) of Judaism with Rabbi Or Rose, in partnership with Hebrew College Open Circle.

This is one of many classes offered for our fall semester. Learn more at www.tisrael.org/adult-education

Judaism is widely regarded as the world’s first great monotheistic tradition. What is not widely known is that Jewish thinkers throughout the ages have held very different views of God. Is the Divine all-powerful and all-knowing? What about evil? Can human actions impact God? From the Hebrew Bible to Maimonides to Abraham Joshua Heschel, these questions have been answered in a variety of ways. In some cases, these answers are radically different!

Join Rabbi Or Rose in his online Hebrew College Open Circle Jewish Learning course, "THE GOD(S) OF JUDAISM" for this unique historical and theological journey, as we explore writings from different time periods and genres of Jewish thought, including art, music and poetry. As we survey these diverse sources, we will ask ourselves how these works might inform our own understandings of theology, history, and creativity.

Join us TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. for our annual Wyner Lecture Series, featuring the Jewish Bluegrass band Kol Kachol!

Formed right before the pandemic, Kol Kahol seeks to push the boundaries of contemporary Jewish music and traditional American Roots music within the context of Jewish prayer. In combining these two musical identities, they tell their story through music; not only proud of their Eastern European Ashkenazic and Sephardic Jewish traditions, but also of their American heritage and its influence on their lives and musical style. In doing so, they offer a unique spiritual experience to those who are wrestling with their own identity, particularly regarding what it means to be an American Jew.

Welcome!

Since Temple Israel’s inception in 1854, we have been a center for Jewish living and learning in the Greater Boston area. We are known as a place committed to deep Jewish scholarship, a community that is unafraid to ask the difficult questions and think about Judaism in new and exciting ways. Temple Israel is a synagogue where some of the greatest Jewish teachers, preachers, and learners have gathered to find deeper meaning, understand our shared history, and incubate ideas for a new generation.

Building upon the wonderful Torah study, clergy teaching, and learning opportunities that are already staples in our yearly calendar, in the 5777 year we proudly introduced a new educational venue for the Greater Boston Jewish community: The Center for Adult Jewish Learning at Temple Israel.

The Center presents adult learning in four primary categories: Open Door, introductory courses and content for people exploring or rediscovering Judaism; Events, gatherings for the larger community, including our endowed lecture series; Classes, varied opportunities to explore Jewish content in small groups with TI clergy, and local rabbis and scholars; and Spiritual Practice Lab, a space to discover, through learning and practice, the spiritual voice that is most meaningful to you.
