Lawyers' Society Statement on Teachers' Strike

The Lawyers' Society expresses concern over the ongoing nationwide strike by teachers, which has halted the reopening of schools. We urge the Government and SLTU to swiftly resolve the issues for the sake of our children’s education and future.

SLP Arrests Six in Connection with Armed Robberies in Bo and Kenema

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has announced major breakthroughs in its investigations into recent armed robbery cases in Bo and Kenema, which tragically claimed the life of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu in Kenema and left Mr. John Lamina critically injured in Bo.

Following intensified operations, police have arrested six suspects believed to be connected to the crimes. They include:

Gbassay Swarray (alias Success), previously linked to a murder case in Moyamba;

Joseph Kamagy Kamara (alias Shine);

Martin Sallu, an ex-convict;

Joseph Bangalie (alias Boika), also an ex-convict for felonious offences;

Foday Sallu; and

Foday Hassan Sesay, found in possession of one of Mr. Lamina’s stolen items.

According to the SLP, fi****ms and other housebreaking tools were recovered during the arrests.

In a separate development, police at Lungi International Airport apprehended a Sierra Leonean national for possession of unlawful substances. Investigations into both matters are ongoing, while a manhunt has been launched for other suspects still at large.

The SLP thanked members of the public for their cooperation and encouraged them to continue sharing timely information to enhance security and ensure community safety.
