Welcome to 2026 and the third year of On The Record Radio Boston! We’re super excited to kick off the new year and we’re going to start off by taking a look back at the last year of record buying. Between rock, blues, jazz and pop, we added 73 records to the collection this year. This week we’ll take a look back at some of the rock records that made an impact.

Chelmsford, tune in this Friday for another installment of Bandcamp Friday!

Hey Matt, what’s this Bandcamp Friday thing about? So glad you asked. On specific Fridays when support your favorite local artists and bands by buying their music and merch from Bandcamp all of the proceeds go directly to the bands. It’s a fantastic time to pick up that album you’ve been listening to or that killer tee your favorite band just put out. Get some of your Christmas shopping out of the way this week while you’re at it!

If you have some music you want me to hear and get in the set, give me a shout this week and send it over! There’s plenty of room to squeeze everyone in. Keep an eye on this post and I’ll add the local bands for you to check out.

This week we are starting a journey; an ear opening venture through the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It is no small undertaking to be sure. Since there are so many albums on the list, we’re going to break it down into 100 album segments, and I’ll pull a selection of songs from each. I can’t get to it all but we can walk away from this five show series with a pretty good handle on what are considered to be the GOATs.

I hate to start a post with a cliche like “remember when….?” but remember when was actually about music? And remember when they featured some of our favorite bands’ acoustic arrangements of songs we loved? Yeah man, me too.

As of late I’ve been minorly obsessed with adding some of those MTV Unplugged albums to the collection. From the unobtanium of Alanis and Alice to Eric Clapton, we’re going to play a variety of unplugged sets revisiting the favorites as well as some you may not have heard before.

If you’ve been listening, you’ll know that I have been a huge fan of this band from Nashville for quite a while. Even before the show existed Year of October was always willing to chat about music or records, and as this thing has picked up steam, I thought it would be cool if we could actually sit down and really get to know Josh and Phylicia Sullivan and what makes Year of October tick.

At long last, we’re going to air the Year of October interview with their newest single ‘Druid Moon’ with a few of their tunes and some songs from bands that they dig. It’s gonna be cool.
