This week we are starting a journey; an ear opening venture through the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It is no small undertaking to be sure. Since there are so many albums on the list, we’re going to break it down into 100 album segments, and I’ll pull a selection of songs from each. I can’t get to it all but we can walk away from this five show series with a pretty good handle on what are considered to be the GOATs.

I hate to start a post with a cliche like “remember when….?” but remember when was actually about music? And remember when they featured some of our favorite bands’ acoustic arrangements of songs we loved? Yeah man, me too.

As of late I’ve been minorly obsessed with adding some of those MTV Unplugged albums to the collection. From the unobtanium of Alanis and Alice to Eric Clapton, we’re going to play a variety of unplugged sets revisiting the favorites as well as some you may not have heard before.

If you’ve been listening, you’ll know that I have been a huge fan of this band from Nashville for quite a while. Even before the show existed Year of October was always willing to chat about music or records, and as this thing has picked up steam, I thought it would be cool if we could actually sit down and really get to know Josh and Phylicia Sullivan and what makes Year of October tick.

We’re back people!

Man has it been a minute or what? I’m excited to get back in the studio and play some music for you tomorrow. The word of the day tomorrow is ‘Grunge.’ This isn’t a 90s show dudes. We’re focusing solely on the music movement that that shook the earth with its overdriven guitars and booming vocals. The grunge movement was hugely influential not only to the Gen X crowd, but to the generations that followed. It still lives and breathes, so let’s breathe it in together.

This week, I performed an experiment. After doing a remote interview with one of my favorite independent bands, who I discovered in this platform (which will air later this month), it occurred to me that if you just dig a little into this Instagram thing, you can find a trove of really great music.

So, I started with one band and followed the rabbit hole to where ever it led. What I found was that as I clicked on more bands, I started to find more bands. And so on….. (the algorithm is real) Some I connected with , others not as much but that’s the magic of putting it out there. You can find your audience and your music all at the same time.

This weeks show is going to be a lot like our Bandcamp Friday shows, featuring musicians and bands you’ve likely never heard of. From right down the street to the other side of the globe. It’s out there people. You’ve just gotta dig.

So grab your shovel and come hang out on Friday June 6th from 12 to 2pm on wrbrocks.com.
