Last night, the Revere City Council unanimously approved (11–0) a historic Wage Theft Ordinance to protect workers in the city from unscrupulous actors who threaten their livelihoods.

The ordinance, filed by our friend and ally, Councilor Juan Pablo Jaramillo, mirrors one of the strongest wage theft protections in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We thank Mayor Patrick Keefe Jr. and the entire City Council for recognizing the need for this action.

This is a major step forward in our union’s ongoing mission to end Construction Industry Tax Fraud and wage theft, and to stand up for the workers who have already been taken advantage of. By tackling the widespread issue of wage theft and promoting fair labor practices in our industry, we not only protect the livelihoods of hardworking people but also strengthen the very fabric of our communities.

This victory is a powerful reminder that when we stand united, we can create meaningful change and build a better future for all. Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke out, and stood together in solidarity to make this victory possible!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our Brother and friend, Paul Ledwell Jr. 💙 Brother Ledwell was a member of Pile Drivers & Divers Local 56 and one of two lost in a jobsite incident in Everett, Massachusetts, last week.

Paul was so much more than a highly skilled, respected and dedicated member of our union; he was a cherished father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. For those of us who knew Paul, we knew his two sons, Paul and Vincent, were the light of his life.

Paul came from a long line of proud union pile drivers. His father Paul, brother Daniel, and brother-in-law Sean, all share a deep commitment to the trade, to family, and to the values of hard work and brotherhood. After graduating from High School, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the New York Local 1456/1556 Piledrivers and Dock Builders Union at just 18 years old. Later, he became a proud member of the Boston Piledrivers Local 56, where he continued to build an impressive career grounded in craftsmanship, hard work, and integrity.

Paul pursued his passion for construction at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management in 2010. Over the years, he worked with some of the leading contractors in the industry, taking on projects that stretched from Boston to New York to Florida. His commitment and skill left an enduring mark on every job site he touched.

His sister, Darcy, shared that Paul took immense pride in his work, always striving to do his best, following in his father’s footsteps and working alongside his brother and brother-in-law as a Boston Local 56 Pile Driver.

Paul’s absence is deeply felt in our union, but as we grieve his loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life he built: a life filled with love, pride, and purpose. His legacy will live on in his work and his union family. Information about services can be found here: https://shepherdfuneralhome.com/tribute/details/7578/Paul-Ledwell-Jr/obituary.html?f

Rest in Peace, Brother. You will be forever missed and never forgotten.🕊💙

The first step toward the future is to look ahead, and we’re doing just that. Carpenters Local 290 brought together over 200 certified stewards this week to strengthen our foundation and plan for what’s ahead. Together, they reviewed jobsite procedures, discussed field experiences, and took a close look at rules, regulations, and contractual obligations.

These conversations are vital to ensuring every steward has the knowledge, support, and resources needed to perform their role efficiently and effectively. Thank you to all of our stewards for your leadership, your dedication, and the essential work you do every day, and for the many responsibilities that come with being a steward.

NEWS: Veteran union leaders Anthony Villa and Jim Mason to oversee nearly 10,000 members across five locals. They will share the responsibilities formerly held by longtime Regional Manager Bill Banfield, who retired earlier this year.

“Anthony and Jim bring decades of experience and a real understanding of what it takes to keep our members and contractors successful,” said Joe Byrne, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the NASRCC. “They’ll play an important role in strengthening our workforce, supporting our contractors, and preparing the next generation of carpenters to meet the industry’s growing demands.”
