Now Hiring clip
Our next #CMFatNEU highlight is “Now Hiring”! (Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/-IYf-YWfXbY) Our president Connor said this about making the video:
“Last year I had the insane idea of making a musical that involved the whole of NUTV Entertainment (~30 people). I worked with a small team of friends to organize what turned into a coffee shop interview blown out of proportion in song & dance. We had a choreographer, lyricist, composer, director, cinematographer, lead cast, etc. I acted as director & composer (though honestly, everyone was directing /something/ the day of filming).
Personally, I learned a lot about pre-production & musical composition. I had to rent out a coffee shop for a day in order for this event to happen and once we had the location, we had to plan the entire film shoot in that one day. We had a schedule that spanned from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM where we called cast & crew and there was a lot that went into the planning for this shoot.
I also personally composed a musical and I had never written any kind of music before this. It was entirely a process where I went in blind, listened to a TON of musicals to learn from the musicality in each, watched endless YouTube tutorials on music theory... the list goes on. In the end, even though the production was simple, everyone on set started humming the melodies the following weeks which was a great feeling. I rode that feeling and have since learned a lot about scoring films, the emotional effects that ambience and SFX have in films, and just the importance of audio in general.
My favorite part of CMF is sharing the experience & putting in tireless effort with the people I was close to. To plan something of that scale with the people you love is just incredible. It's something that I won't forget for the rest of my life.”
This week we’re highlighting some of our members’ #CMFatNEU videos and experiences! Check out this clip from “3:00 AM” by David Scheckel (full video here: https://youtu.be/RyzBokrwkko). Here’s what he said about it:
.
“We [Bridget, Kim, James and I] made a pretty simple conversation-based video about two friends having a heart-to-heart after an emotionally difficult night out. I pulled an all-nighter to edit it and honestly I think it was worth it since we did end up making top 16. That's the thing about CMF, it feels like an absolute hell when you're in the middle of it and at certain points you just hit a wall. But, once you persevere past that creative wall it becomes such an amazing week of great memories and you can have a work that you're proud of by the end of it.
My favorite part of doing CMF is the rush of excitement that you feel within the NUTV environment when everyone is making a video. Even though you're all working on your own vid, it feels like a team-effort when you're in the office until the wee hours of the morning working on the final draft of your video. Watching every single NUTV video make the top 16 last year was definitely my favorite memory because it was just such a great reward/culmination of all the hard work everyone had put in.”
