Can we quote James Joyce for a second? "In the particular is contained the universal." That's the underlying theme of the stories featured in the second year of GBH's LOCAL LENS — a curated series of local, independent documentaries, supplemented with programs from the PBS library, that capture our beautiful, strange, historic corner of the country, while amplifying the work of New England filmmakers.

GBH programmer Emily Abi-Kheirs: "Being able to uplift and showcase work from our own local filmmakers is important and part of the mission for us at GBH... I really believe in independent films. These films are made by and for viewers like us, and I think independent films are at the heart of what public media is about."

Tune in to GBH's LOCAL LENS weekly on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on GBH-2, or anytime on the PBS app and our GBH YouTube channel for independent films right from our backyard.

New England is full of characters, quirks, and colorful narratives. GBH is doing the vital work of sharing these stories with the second year of Local Lens — a weekly seasonal offering of local, independent documentaries that capture our beautiful, strange, historic corner of the country. We spoke...

As the home of FRONTLINE | PBS, we're offering a unique look behind the scenes of "2000 Meters to Andriivka," which captures the devastating toll of the Russia-Ukraine war on Ukrainian soldiers advancing through their destroyed homeland.

See an exclusive extended clip from the film and join in a panel conversation and Q&A with FRONTLINE editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath as well as filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov and producer Michelle Mizner, who were all behind the Oscar-winning film "20 Days in Mariupol."

"People do have this nostalgic, wonderful affection for GBH. And I love it that they do. But what I also hope this campaign makes clear is the relevance and importance of the work that we are doing right now and going forward."

Congress told us to go fund ourselves. Hear our President and CEO Susan Goldberg explain how we plan to do so, and why GBH's mission is more important now than ever –– as is support from viewers like you. ⬇️

Like so many other people, I grew up on programs. Go .pbs 👊! I still rely on public broadcasting for my news, entertainment and ongoing learning. Since Congress defunded $1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, effective at the beginning of this month, the 350+ PBS stations and 1,000+ NPR member stations across the country need our support now more than ever.

As a former CFO, I can tell you that monthly donations are especially welcome, because they enable organizations to predict future funding and this informs decision-making about staffing and other costs.

I’m proud to show my support for GBH and their programming. My husband and I recently increased our annual giving dramatically and I encourage you to do whatever you can to support your location public radio or television station as well. Many of these stations produce original content and provide local news, as well as children’s programming. Independent journalism at this time is especially critical.

Working for over five years as the Business Manager at the radio program at GBH in the early 2000s infused me with a deep respect for journalism. In Boston we are especially fortunate to have two major public media stations and a separate shoutout to , where we also recently increased our giving. (Side note: WBUR will also always have a special place in my heart because my husband and I met at one of their fundraisers in 1993!) And finally, sending out more love to , where I am honored to be featured in their Windows Of The Wild show this month.

Please join me in supporting your local public radio or television station and give what you can, for as long as you can. Check out ‘s link in bio to learn about all the different ways you can make a difference! image.png
