ADY MACAULEY CRITICISES NEW FUEL PRICES, DESCRIBES INCREASE AS “A CATASTROPHE”

Former Anti-Corruption Commissioner, and APC Flagbearer Aspirant Ady Macauley, has criticised the government’s latest increase in petroleum prices, describing the adjustment as “not just a price rise, but a catastrophe” for ordinary Sierra Leoneans.

In a statement shared on social media, Macauley noted that petrol has increased to NLe40,000 per litre, from NLe24,500 in January, representing what he described as an 84 percent increase within nine months. He warned that the development could have far-reaching consequences for transportation, food prices, farming, trade and services, potentially deepening the country’s cost-of-living crisis.

Macauley also accused the Bio/SLPP administration of failing to give sufficient attention to the economy while focusing on what he described as efforts to manipulate the Constitution to remain in power. He argued that ordinary citizens would ultimately bear the burden of rising prices and economic pressures.

Turning to the 2028 elections, Macauley called on Sierra Leoneans to vote out the SLPP, describing it as a “responsibility” and presenting his political movement under the message “Team Rescue” and “Team Ady Macauley.”

GOVERNMENT SETS NEW FUEL PRICES AS PETROL RISES TO NLe40 AND DIESEL TO NLe45

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced new pump prices for petroleum products, effective today, with petrol now selling at NLe40.00 per litre and diesel at NLe45.00 per litre. Authorities say the adjustment follows significant increases in international oil prices, driven in part by the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its impact on global energy markets.

According to government officials, the current pricing formula would have placed the full pass-through cost at NLe41.04 for petrol and NLe46.76 for diesel. However, government says it will absorb the difference through subsidies as part of measures to cushion consumers from the full impact of rising global prices.

The announcement comes amid recent fuel shortages, with several Oil Marketing Companies reportedly reducing or suspending sales at filling stations, resulting in long queues and supply challenges across the country. Government says the new prices are intended to restore normal supply, stabilise the petroleum market and ensure the availability of fuel nationwide.

Despite the increase in pump prices, Waka Fine public transport fares will remain unchanged, as government says additional subsidies will cover the increased fuel costs for transport operators. Authorities have also announced longer-term reforms to strengthen Sierra Leone’s role in the petroleum supply chain, including expanded importation, storage and wholesale capacity to improve fuel security and reduce vulnerability to future external shocks.

Former Commissioner of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and one of Sierra Leone’s youngest individuals to serve in the position, Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura, has celebrated his birthday surrounded by friends, colleagues, APC comrades and members of the party’s leadership.

The celebration brought together political associates and well-wishers who joined in recognising Bangura’s contribution to Sierra Leone’s media, political and public service landscape. He currently serves as CEO and Founder/Managing Editor of The OWL PRESS, while maintaining his engagement with the APC as a Patron Member.

As he marked the occasion, APC comrades and members of the party leadership extended messages of goodwill, describing the birthday as an opportunity to celebrate his service, commitment and continued involvement in national affairs.

The gathering ended with prayers and well-wishes for Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura, with supporters wishing him good health, wisdom, greater achievements and continued success in the years ahead.

KAMARA-TAYLOR DECLARES BID FOR APC NATIONAL ORGANISING SECRETARY

Former All People’s Congress (APC) National Campaign Secretary, Abubakarr Kamara-Taylor, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of National Organising Secretary of the APC, pledging to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, improve internal coordination and ensure the party is better prepared for future elections.

Speaking on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the MIB Complex in Bo District, Kamara-Taylor described his candidacy as an offering of service rather than a pursuit of prestige. He referenced his experience as former National Treasurer of the APC National Youth League, National Campaign Secretary during the 2018 General Elections, National Coordinator of Join 4 Better Salone and Special Adviser to former President Ernest Bai Koroma. He has also previously contested the National Organising Secretary position three times.

Citing Article 50(c) of the APC Constitution, he said the Organising Secretary has a critical role in party coordination, recruitment, training of activists and polling agents, voter education, mobilisation and campaign implementation. He pledged to strengthen the APC “from the polling centre upward” through regular training, improved communication, stronger membership engagement and year-round organisational preparation, while promoting greater inclusion of women, young people, students and persons with disabilities, as well as stronger digital and diaspora engagement.

Kamara-Taylor also unveiled his Organising Blueprint, outlining his vision and proposed programmes for strengthening party structures and coordination. Acknowledging the competitiveness of future elections, he said no organiser could guarantee victory, but effective preparation could create the conditions for success. He urged party members to embrace his five-point philosophy: “Listen, Organise, Communicate, Mobilise and Deliver,” concluding that, “Organisation is the bridge between political aspiration and electoral possibility.”
