From tired and traditional to bold and beautiful — I stripped it down, sanded, stained it in black, sealed it up, popped on some new hardware, and lined those drawers.

Who says cherry wood can’t be moody and modern? 🍒🖤

In 1914, this buffet was brand new — crafted from solid quarter sawn oak with the kind of care and quality you just don’t see every day. Over a century later, it’s still standing strong, but time had left its mark.

This piece has lived through generations in my client’s family, and now it was time to bring it back to life — not to make it perfect, but to honor its story.

Every layer I stripped away revealed more of its history. Every detail restored felt like brushing dust off a memory.

Now it’s ready for the next generation — still proud, still beautiful, still theirs.

I had a sneaking suspicion…

And I was right!

To be clear, the marking on the back of the mirror isn’t the exact date of manufacturing. That’s when the mirror was made, but it does give us a giant clue as to the age of this piece. PLUS the style, the wood and the fact that it is quarter sawn oak (aka tiger oak which was very popular in this particular era) all point to the age of this beautiful antique.

She’s been around for over 100 years and we’re going to make sure she’s ready for the next 100! Stay tuned - you’re not going to want to miss this restoration!!
