🎯 Target of the Day: Describing Language

Describing helps children build vocabulary, strengthen expressive language skills, and communicate more effectively.

When describing an object, encourage your child to talk about:

⭐ Category – What group does it belong to?
Example: A banana is a fruit.

📍 Location – Where would you find it?
Example: You find a banana in the kitchen or at the grocery store.

🛠️ Function – What does it do or what is it used for?
Example: You eat a banana as a snack.

🎨 Attributes – What does it look like?
Examples: Yellow, long, curved, has a peel.

🔎 Parts – What parts does it have?
Example: A banana has a peel and fruit inside.

Practicing descriptions helps children become stronger communicators, improve word retrieval skills, and expand their vocabulary! 🍌💬📚

The Reading Company is so grateful to have Cally as part of our team! After completing her graduate school externship with us in 2025, we were thrilled when she accepted a PRN position following the completion of her Master’s degree.

Cally continues to make a meaningful impact by helping our kiddos grow, learn, and make progress each day. She is truly a difference maker, and we are incredibly thankful for the compassion, dedication, and skills she brings to our team. 🩵🔤💭👄
