Tonight on The Lowdown Hoedown….

Tonight on The Lowdown Hoedown, we put the spotlight on my old friend Arlen Roth. Arlen and I go back a few years, he’s one of the finest guitarists to strap on a Telecaster. I’ll even go one step further. Just strap any guitar on him and he’ll make it talk.

This week we’ll play tracks from Arlen’s 2015 release, “Slide Guitar Summit,” featuring collaborations with Lee Roy Parnell, Jack Pearson, Johnny Winter, David Lindley, Rick Vito, Jimmy Vivino, Sonny Landreth, Cindy Cashdollar, plus spotlight his new release, ‘Blues Grass’ with The Rank & File Band.

‘Blues Grass’ is a studio album by legendary American guitarist Arlen Roth and the Rank & File Band, released on August 7, 2026, through MoMojo Records. The project blends the deep roots of blues, bluegrass, country, and Americana to explore what Roth describes as the "bluer, darker side of bluegrass".Recorded in just five days to capture a raw, live-in-the-room energy, the album highlights acoustic string interplay, vocal harmonies, and Roth's signature expressive guitar work.

Arlen will call in The Lowdown Hoedown around 8:20 CST to talk about the new album, plus catch up on music and life.
