3 tracks from each band and a track worked by both.

The Trial of Socrates is the new double album from Thumos, who play heavy instrumental songs based on the philosophy of Plato. 16 tracks (109 minutes!) interpreting the life, trial and death of his mentor Socrates. Contrary to my initial belief that this was the guy who died by getting hit in the head from a falling turtle, Socrates was sentenced to ex*****on by poison, hemlock, for corrupting the youth and religious impiety.

Thumos “The Trial of Socrates” releases this Friday and has been awarded a 10/10 from GBHBL 👀

Thumos proudly presents The Trial of Socrates, a double album of 16 tracks lasting 109 minutes interpreting the life, trial and death of Socrates. Mastered by Neil Schneider and co-released by Snow Wolf Records (CD) and Fiadh Productions (cassette), the album is out on July 4th, 2025.

Various Artists: Four Sorrows (2025) - mini-review

US labels Snow Wolf Records and Fiadh Productions are out with the 4 way split mini-album "Four Sorrows", and the songs chosen for this production all touch base with the progressive metal tradition in general and the extreme parts of it in particular. Some more than others. Each of the bands explore and ebb and flow approach to the landscapes they explore, and all of them do so with various kinds of atmospheric laden elements as a part of their repertoire. We get both a more subtle manner of aggression as well as more overt displays of those, with some of the contributors being more contemporary aligned in their excursions while others appear to have a bit more of an old school approach to the music in general and the metal oriented aspects of it in particular. With Polish band Mistral perhaps being the most elegant of the lot, Mexican band Ambergaze being the most atmospheric laden, Norwegian band Myrvandrer being the provider of the more old school and slightly rough around the edges landscapes while US band Starer may perhaps be the most sophisticated of the entries here. A split album worth an inspection by those who enjoy music that dips its toes into atmospheric laden extreme metal as well as extreme progressive metal.
