I’m scheduled for another dermatology check-up! And, yes, I currently use Rodan+Fields Sunscreen SPF 50 religiously. ⚠️ Here’s the scoop: the way you treat your skin in your twenties shows up as you get older. Sunscreen is the number one priority. You can take my word for it or experience it yourself, but don’t say I didn’t warn you! Don’t do as I, Marilynn, did: I used baby oil with iodine or tanning oil with little or no SPF for several years. 🙄 The result was more freckles, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and then skin cancer. That’s when I started taking sunscreen seriously. Thankfully, they were all basal cell carcinoma. The damage was done over the years, and the consequences popped up over the following years.
➥ Then, the smallest area, smaller than a mustard seed but deeper, was confirmed basal cell carcinoma requiring Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is a cancer treatment where a skilled surgeon removes tissue in tiny increments, testing the tissue for clear margins. After waiting for the pathology report in surgery, we discovered more cancerous tissue needed to be removed. This process takes only the diseased tissue and leaves your healthy tissue intact. Although this type of surgery is a far less invasive solution than other therapies like excision, with a low chance of recurrence, it required a skin graft for my optimal results. 🔜 The sooner you start using sunscreen daily, the better chance you have of dodging skin cancer.
