For the second time, the county school board opposed an organization’s proposal allowing students with parental permission to leave school early for “character-based Bible education — a vote tied to legislation newly interpreted by the Kentucky Attorney General.

On Thursday, the Warren County Public School Board of Education voted 3-2 against a second proposal by the nonprofit LifeWise Academy. The nonprofit this time proposed a spring pilot program offering lessons for Lost River Elementary students in two grades through a curriculum called the Gospel Project, self-described as “Christ-centered, chronological Bible study.”

The bill that reopened the government folds in cannabis restrictions billed as protecting children and preserving legitimate h**p businesses, but farms and dispensaries say it’ll eliminate virtually all h**p business — including in Bowling Green.

“If the bill doesn’t change, we will be out of business in 365 days,” said Clay Powell, whose family business Experimental Farms has a cannabis farm by Owensboro and sells products throughout the commonwealth, including in Bowling Green — referring to the law’s taking effect in a year. “All my products have THC in them, but they’re a thing you rub on your body for muscle aches and pains — they’re not getting anybody high.”
