It’s time for the weekly review! We performed 8 fire safety inspections and 2 EMS details this week. We also responded to 17 emergency calls broken down as follows:

Medical Aids- 8
Fire/ CO Alarm Activations- 6
Other- 3

Our picture this week comes from the Willows building project, we don’t get the chance to see our water tanks being put in the ground too often so it’s a great time to show everyone what some of the tanks look like. We use these tanks (along with the ponds) as a water source for our incidents. They are located underground all over town and are filled with between 10,000 to 30,000 gallons of water!

Our members attended panel discussions and collaborated on different programs and educational resources available with other departments throughout the state.

This week’s Apparatus Spotlight is Brush 1, a 2014 Ford F550 Firematic BRAT (Brush Rapid Attack Truck). Interestingly, Brush 1 was purchased through a federal grant which covered $133,000 of the $140,000 cost! Brush 1 serves as our forestry truck which is capable of driving through heavily wooded areas to extinguish fires. It carries 300 gallons of water and is our only apparatus capable of “roll and pump”, meaning that it can flow water while driving! This is especially useful when extinguishing large areas of brush along the trail. When engaged, the officer can operate a joystick that controls the smaller deck gun off the front bumper. Brush 1 has a 1 ¾” crosslay as well as hundreds of feet of 2 ½” & 1” forestry line. There is a detachable portable floating pump on the rear of the truck which enables crews to utilize any body of water to refill the truck or operate additional handlines. Brush 1 also carries numerous hand tools for fighting brush fires including; rakes, shovels, axes, and a chainsaw.

If you see Brush 1 around town, give it a wave!
