Just listened to Eric Church's fine song "Kill A Word" on musicranchradio.com Wow. And I thought the modern protest song was a thing of the past. I think this song stands out among the thousands of mostly mediocre songs floating around in the music universe today (you know the ones "Long brown legs hangin' from the back of my pickup truck while I fell into the campfire stone drunk from drinkin' uh, Too Much Whiskey, yup" those songs. Sure they make a lot of money for someone but somewhere someone's mother is thinking "WTF did I teach that kid. Shoulda bought a new outfit instead of that geetar." Just kidding, but back to the subject, "Kill A Word" is a beauty of a song and Church does it justice. You can hear it on Music Ranch Radio, 24/7/365 morning noon and night, tune in, drop out and drop me a line letting me know you're listening. In the past hour I've also listened to the Doobies "We Won" Jeff Plankenhorn (he's great btw) and right now Ringo Starr singing "Let's Change the World". Oh man, life's good. Peace.

I did what John Prine told me to do years ago, blew up the t.v. (not really, just didn't turn it on) and tuned into Music Ranch Radio, the 24-7-365 internet radio station playing back to back hits from all over the music spectrum, listening to the Band of Heathens and their version of the John Denver song Take Me Home Country Road, it's a great cover of one of the first songs I and many other singers learned on the guitar back in the Day. The New Orleans Social Club and Ivan Neville are spanking their soulful way through the old CCR song "Fortunate Son" as I write this. Those cats can play! The Nevilles are musical gems and geniuses. I'm always updating and upgrading the song offerings on the station,, so tune in, spread the word, all you need to listen is an internet connection then go to musicranchradio.com and start listening. It's good stuff, great sound quality and consistently bringing you the best of national artists and, proudly, the only outlet for our local artists, I call them the Black Dirt Bunch, the artists of the northern tier who sing about us, you and I, how and where we live, who we are and what we treasure. Keep listening, spread the word and let me know what YOU want to hear on YOUR station, the home of Black Dirt Music!

A bit of snow on the ground today covering up some leaves I didn't sweep up. Spending the morning listening to the great tunes on Music Ranch Radio, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Mark Cohn, The Doobies, and the great tunes of the Eagles. As young musicians we were trying to emulate or recreate the sound of the early Eagles, the pure, simple arrangements we could copy pretty close but the harmonies, ha, that's different. Pure, real no autotune working there, just great talent, super voices and good relatable songwriting, absolutely the best of the country rock generation. You can relive it today on the MRR morning show. DO IT! Peace.

"Smoke On The Water" and everywhere else in Montana it seems. We have some serious forest fires burning and turning our normally clear blue skies into gray curtains of smoke, blotting out our mountain ranges and wide open vistas. In short, it ain't good. For those of us who don't smoke or v**e, it's like we've been smoking unfiltered Camels all our lives. Be careful, especially for our pets who don't really have a lot of choices about being out in the smoke. I wouldn't recommend running a marathon in this. In fact, I wouldn't recommend running a marathon. Jim Bridger had to do it to save his scalp. You don't. Be smart. Stay home and write a song. Send it to me. I'll play it on Music Ranch Radio! Peace.

I've been listening to some great tunes lately and it seems the songs of the 60's 70's and 80' still stand up to the test of time. Some very good tunes written and performed in those decades for sure. But, I've also taken to some newer music too. I'm a melody, story-oriented appreciator of music and John Mayer has some good personal type songs, complex chord changes, nice melodies and so on, so I've downloaded a bunch of his tunes, some you probably haven't heard before. I also love to go back and grab the best of The Doobie Brothers, Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, and some newer groups that cover some of these artist's great music. Always looking for new local talent as well, so keep an eye out for some local talent who would like to hear their stuff on the radio, Music Ranch Radio that is!

Time flies when you've lost your mind, or so I've heard. It's been a while since I posted but I haven't forgotten you Ranch Hands out there! I hope you've taken a new look at Music Ranch Radio lately. I've updated the station technologically, changed websites and servers so the station is running smoothly. I've added hundreds of new tunes also, things look and sound GREAT! I will soon be broadcasting live and bringing some original content to the station but I'm curious as to what you might want to hear? Do you like live interviews with artists? Coverage of local music events including some live video? I'm thinking of even creating a classical music hour once a week for my classical music friends. I know little to nothing about the music form, but it's popular especially in a college town where we have a plethora of world class classical musicians! Let me know your thoughts and don't be shy about it, I do want to know what you'd like to hear. Sorry, no rap. I know it's popular but until someone explains the musical and lyrical value of it, I just don't get it. Remember local artists with recorded material in MP3 form: You can get airplay AND receive royalties thanks to my investment in YOU by aligning my station with the recording rights societies! Send it in or call me and let's talk. I'll even come out to your live venue and grab a live recording of your stuff. It has to be good though-my listeners are picky! Great way to test your material and become like, REALLY famous. Maybe. Could happen. But not if you don't try, right? Black Dirt Music is alive and well at Music Ranch Radio! Peace and out.
