I'd like to take a moment of your time and talk about yesterday, Saturday September 20th 2025. This day started off as a typical Saturday off, Noreast had no events booked and were actually planning on attending one that afternoon. As I'm cleaning my truck from the week, I get a call around 10:30am from a bride in a complete and utter panic. Her DJ cancelled on her 5 minutes before calling me. 10:30 in the morning..... On the day of her wedding..... Her DJ Backs out. Now, I know who this DJ is. I will not be putting him on blast here as it isn't the right place for it.

I asked her what time her wedding was and where it was. 5pm in Portland. I was in Millinocket. That's three hours to get down there, at least an hour or so to setup and cleaned, and get everything organized in order to be able to perform.

I'm not here to gloat. I am incredibly thankful that I was able to throw all the basic necessities together in such a short amount of time, get down there, setup and organized and still have time to take a breather to mentally prepare for this. What typically takes weeks, and months to put together and plan, all done in a matter of 5 or so hours.

This next part is too my fellow DJ's.... If you are in this business and your only goal is to make money? I hate to be blunt but it's time to hang it up. I and all the other profession DJ's that I surround my company with take weddings very serious. When you get into this business, couples are literally putting the most important and special day of their lives on your shoulders. You have to be at the top of your game. Now, we are not perfect by any means. We have absolutely made our fair share of mistakes. But one thing I will not stand for is leaving a couple hanging on their wedding day. There are only extreme circumstances that should ever prevent something such as this from happening, coming up with an excuse like this DJ did, unacceptable. Do better. Be better.

With that out of the way, I can't say that I was able to completely pull this off alone. I would like to make a shout out to our good friend DJ Bill Lyons for offering up all the help he could including some of his own equipment to get us on the road and headed south in as little time as possible. I would also like to thank the event staff at Events at Thompson's Point that gave me any and all assistance that I needed. Lastly, I want to thank my bride and groom, Susie & Cole for trusting us so last minute with making their wedding day a success and I'm incredibly thankful that we were able to pull it off. All in all, I don't think this could have turned out better.

A few tips when booking your DJ:

Experience with weddings – not just clubs or parties; weddings have unique flow and timing.

Professional equipment & backup plan – quality sound, microphones, and backups in case something fails.

Music variety & customization – ability to play different genres and honor must-play and do-not-play lists.

MC skills – confident with announcements, introductions, and keeping the timeline on track.

Reviews & referrals – proven track record from other couples or venues.

Personality & fit – someone who vibes well with you and your guests’ energy.

Contracts & pricing clarity: Always make sure there is a contract in place.
