Time is a strange thing. In 1994, at twenty-one years old and stationed in Washington, D.C., I was fortunate enough to be there as the nation commemorated the 50th anniversary of D-Day. The city was filled with World War II veterans—men and women in their 60s, 70s and 80s who had stormed beaches, flown bombers, sailed warships and helped save the world. At twenty-one, they were just old men to me. I respected them, but I couldn't fully grasp what I was seeing or the history I was standing among. Fifty years felt like an unimaginable amount of time.
Now, on the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, I find myself looking at those memories differently. At 53, the distance between 1994 and today feels much shorter than the distance between 1944 and 1994 did back then. Thirty-two years ago feels like yesterday. Eighty-two years, while still remarkable, no longer seems impossible to comprehend.

What amazes me most is that there are still a few members of that Greatest Generation with us—men and women who were there on that day and in the weeks that followed, helping turn the tide of World War II. I often think back to those veterans I saw in Washington all those years ago. Most are gone now. The young men who landed on the beaches of Normandy were already elderly by the time I met them.

Today, the few who remain carry more than eight decades of memories, sacrifice and history. I can only imagine what eighty-two years must feel like to them. And I am grateful that, even now, some are still here to remind us what courage, duty and service truly look like. -C.H.

Elvis Fans, Sound Off!

A local group is kicking around an idea for a FREE Elvis Weekend at the Palace Theater in August 2026 to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley.

We're thinking movie screenings, including the Elvis '68 Comeback Special, the Elvis movie, and headlined by EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.

Maybe some Elvis memorabilia on display, and perhaps even a young Elvis tribute performer.

Admission would be free, with donations accepted.

Would you attend? What would you like to see?

Let us know in the comments. If there's enough interest, we may just make it happen.

Thank you. Thank you very much. 🎤⚡️👑 TcB⚡️

✅ Landfill Reopening Notice ✅

Good news, Brady! The City of Brady Landfill is open today, and regular operating hours have resumed.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the recent weather-related closures. We know many residents have been waiting for an opportunity to dispose of debris and other materials, and we appreciate your cooperation as we allowed the site time to dry and conditions to improve.

Because the landfill operates on unpaved surfaces, significant rainfall can create soft and unstable ground conditions that affect the safe movement of customers, equipment, and vehicles throughout the site. For that reason, landfill operations may occasionally be impacted by weather conditions, and temporary closures may be necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and staff.

With ground conditions now suitable for operations, the landfill is once again open and ready to serve the community.

Regular Hours:
📅 Tuesday–Saturday
🕘 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We look forward to serving you!

“Road Work On Main Street To Begin June 1”

*Update 8:30 a.m.: TxDot workers are down on the square. However they are not part of the construction crew. They are marking the South side of the Square in anticipation of the next phase of the construction project, set to begin next year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

As of 8:00 a.m. Monday morning, construction has not started and there is no clear indication it will.

Will they or won’t they?
