Meet My Four Chihuahuas: Maya, Carlito, Timmy, and Penelope
I share my life with four adorable Chihuahuas, each with their own personality and story.
Maya — long head, 20 years old
Carlito — short hair, 12 years old
Timmy — long hair, 11 years old
Penelope — short hair, 8 years old
Daily Routine and Care
One of our favorite daily routines is brushing their teeth. I feed them duck neck bones to help keep their teeth clean. The little bones in the middle scrape away plaque and dirt from their teeth, making dental care a little easier and more natural for them.
Important Note: Dietary Considerations
I can’t give them chicken necks. They are inexpensive and easy to find, but Timmy is allergic to chicken and eggs, so I avoid any chicken products to keep him safe. I always check ingredients and sources to ensure Timmy’s allergies are respected while still providing dental-friendly chews and bites.
Why Duck Necks Work for Us
They’re a natural dental aid that helps reduce plaque.
They fit well with the size and chewing style of our Chihuahuas.
They’re part of a routine that Timmy can tolerate safely, given his chicken allergy.
Tips for Caring for Chihuahuas
Monitor chewing: With small breeds, keep an eye on how they chew to prevent choking.
Dental health: Regular brushing, dental chews, and appropriate bones or chews can help reduce plaque.
Allergies: Always tailor treats and chews to any dietary allergies (like Timmy’s chicken/egg allergy).
Age considerations: Maya is the oldest by far at 20; ensure joints, teeth, and overall health are monitored as they age.
