‘Best buddies’ on tour

South Dakota’s top two officials – Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen and Governor Larry Rhoden – paid a visit to Brandon on Thursday, June 26, stopping by Buddies & Co., a local non-profit coffee shop, and then toured Midwest Railcar Repair. They’re pictured with District 2 legislators (from left) Reps. Dave Kull and John Sjaarda, and Sen. Steve Kolbeck. The state leadership is touring South Dakota, focusing on the vast economic opportunities here.

U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced his candidacy Monday for Governor of South Dakota.

“It’s been the honor of my lifetime to serve South Dakota in Congress and to have the opportunity to help secure the southern border, cut trillions in wasteful government spending, and reclaim the fight against the Chinese Communist Party,” said Johnson, 48. “But it’s time for a new chapter – a chapter that drives South Dakota to a brighter future where we build better schools and safer communities, a chapter that governs with conservative principles to create new jobs, new businesses, and new opportunities in every community, and a chapter where being a workhorse, not a show horse, still means something. Little Town on the Prairie is welcoming Little House on the Prairie television show cast members for a weekend of special events and screenings of the new documentary, Little House Homecoming on July 11, 12 and 13.

Taking in the annual summer event will be Dean Butler (Almanzo), Wendi Lou Lee (Baby Grace), and Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle), who all brought Laura Ingalls Wilder’s stories and spirit to life through their acting on the television show.

Fans will have a chance to meet the actors, attend screenings of the documentary, get autographs, listen to panel discussions and book readings, and attend a special Sunday Luncheon.

The annual invasion of classic cars is headed back to Valley Springs.

This Saturday, June 28, Automania is back for the third straight year and projections are big for both car counts and crowd size. Automania is the largest free automotive event in the Midwest and features classic vehicles, muscle cars, sports cars, imports, trucks and motorcycles.

“Weather permitting, this year should be a record,” said Automania organizer Bernie Tyrrell. “There’s a lot of interest in that show and it brings in a lot of cars.”
