Jackson State University has climbed to No. 15 among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. News & World Report 2026 Best Colleges rankings, marking the university’s strongest placement in the last nine years. JSU is now positioned just two spots below its all-time high of No. 13 in 2016.

The Otis Redding Foundation will host the 4th Annual King of Soul Music Festival in Macon, Georgia, September 12–13, 2025. The two-day celebration kicks off with “An Evening of Respect” at the Macon City Auditorium, honoring Jon Platt, The Peyton Anderson Foundation, and the late Josh Rogers, with performances by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and special guests Yola, Lamont Landers, Dexter Redding, and Charles Davis. The festival continues with the Big “O” Homecoming Show & Dance at the Capitol Theatre, featuring legendary DJ and producer Mannie Fresh. Proceeds benefit the Otis Redding Center for the Arts, advancing music and arts education for youth.

Jackson State University (JSU) has unveiled a new mural inside its postal office created by JSU alumni and award-winning contemporary artist Christopher Windfield. The mural, located in the Jacob L. Reddix Hall illustrates the university’s rich history and features key civil rights figures.
The project was led by JSU’s Auxiliary Enterprises Executive Director Lakesha Hill, Assistant Director Victor Mills and JSU Postal ManagerStephanie Luckett.

If you were affected by the storms and tornadoes on March 14-15, visit and see what assistance they can provide with your recovery.

FEMA will be there to help you register for assistance, give you updates, accept any needed documents, and answer your questions.

Jackson State University’s (JSU) Office of Community Engagement partnered with the Pecan Tree Park Neighborhood Association to provide 150 Jackson residents with free Ring doorbells. The project was made possible through a $50,000 Home Depot Retool Your School Community Project Grant providing residents increased surveillance, accessibility and more.
