The Branson Cafe is celebrating its 115th anniversary this year! It was established in 1910 and has been in its current location since the late 1920s. In celebration of its anniversary here are some fun facts about the year 1910!
- Only 14 percent of American homes had a bathtub.
- The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
- The speed limit in most U.S. cities was 12 mph, and about 500,000 motor vehicles were in operation.
- Only 14% of Americans had a high school diploma.
- The Boy Scouts of America was established.
- The first public radio broadcast took place. It featured a live performance of the opera "Cavalleria Rusticana" from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
- The first commercial airplane flight took place on January 1, 1910. The flight, operated by the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line, marked the beginning of commercial aviation.
- The first talking motion picture, "The Edison Kinetophone," was introduced.
- The first electric washing machine was introduced by the Hurley Machine Company.
- The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower
- There were only 46 states as New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii had yet to become states.
