Some gems recorded during at NECCA, jamming with .aerial . Some good potential and a good fail! I haven't been making time to get on trapeze these days so it was really nice to have a time and a place and a community for it this past weekend.

I had such a great trapeze immersion weekend with this wonderful group of aerialists πŸ₯°. We did all the beats, all the fun dynamic moves, and all the twisty thready windy sequences we could fit in one weekend. I can't wait to do it again next weekend (and assist 's lyra immersion the weekend after that)!

1. Who is coming to my trapeze immersion this weekend or the next? I have all your names but don't know who you all are on IG!
2. OMG I have been wanting to be able to grab the bar from heel hang without climbing up my legs forEVER!
(Shown here: first ever success, first ever success in slow-mo just to really enjoy it, and second ever success to prove the first video wasn't a rewind ;))
I remember working really hard on this in like 2012, but this is like example #63 of how hard work and consistency often don't work for me, and when I'm stuck on a skill, I tend to have more success with taking a break and cross-training. I attribute this sudden new ability to a summer dancing ballet (thank you, ).

My first August trapeze immersion weekend sold out the same day it was announced (!), so we added another weekend, and that means now there are still two spots available for the August 21-22 weekend... Could one of those spots be yours?? Link in bio for all the info. You have just enough time before then to get your hand calluses ready for a full weekend of trapezing!

Today was stickiest, sweatiest trapeze of the summer yet. Add-on sequence with .

Add-on sequence with . It went on much longer but I was on the struggle bus so here's the nicer start 😊.

I hate teaching (and working on ;)) pop to back balance because it's so challenging, so discouraging, so inconsistent for many of us, and does it even look that great in an act full of other cool things that someone with a pop to back balance can probably also do? (There are some people I love watching do it, like , who seems to take flight, but for so many of us we either make it by the skin of our teeth or it's clear we're muscling it instead of riding momentum.)

Sour grapes aside, it sure does feel good to do one, if only because it's something that other trapezists seem to care about. Okay maybe also because there's such a clear y/n as to whether you've succeeded or not.

I think reversing back balance to sitting could be a thing, going from sit to back balance nice and slow? At least a good technical challenge. I'm all about the etudes.

Some hot n sticky summer trapeze from an add-on phrase and I made together πŸ’•

Post-Gyrokinesis improv seeking that same stretchy gooey feeling. (I cut out the boring middle part for you πŸ˜‰)

Spinning makes every improv look better, turns out...

Another add-on sequence and I made recently. Feels so good to be on my trapeze out in the open air, grass all over my feet.

It's been a couple of months since I've really done trapeze because I've been busy getting ready to perform classical ballet with this summer! We open in about 2 weeks and are touring farms around Vermont. Maybe you can come to a show? (Brattleboro is July 10th!)
Trapeze feels hard and painful at the moment, but I'm grateful to have my rig up now with easy access for the coming weeks, and tickled that my heel hang hasn't left me even without chalk or rosin. I'm eager to reconnect with this friend.

Come join me in August at for a weekend of trapeze! Link in bio, and more info below. I had such a great time teaching this immersion a couple years ago, and I can't wait to get a bunch of trapezists together for this again πŸ’—.

ABOUT THIS TRAPEZE IMMERSION
Join us for a weekend of exploration and technique with one of our favorite trapeze coaches! This classic apparatus offers so many thingsβ€”bar work, vertical space, rolling, turning, and beating. We’ll experiment, play, and create through guided investigations to refine your trapeze technique while developing new skills and learning inventive sequences and pathways.

DETAILS
Cost:
$350

Early Bird Discount:
Get the special $325 early bird price if you register before July 31st!

Instructor:
Megan Gendell

Age:
18 and up.

Schedule:
Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Prerequisites:
This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced trapeze practitioners who have a current and regular trapeze practice and are comfortable moving onto and around the trapeze. Students must be able to do ankle hang beats, one-knee hangs, front balance with no hands, and invert comfortably in the ropes.

05/15/2021

I asked Catherine Jett to make up a little knee beat sequence for me on the spot today and this is what she gave me. It would be nice to fine-tune it more (omg my straddle inversion here makes me cringe!) but it's a sweet little ditty as is and I wanted to share.
This is the first time I've done that knee beat to straddle catch high enough to beat out of it. The dynamics of it are very strange and I'd be curious to keep working on it!

Slowest possible dynamic trapeze (I mean, the video isn't in slow mo, I am!) + apologies for the very visually busy background!
Back balance to reverse elbow circle to ankles πŸ’₯
