Hyper independence is a trauma response. The desire to disappear into the woods and start a commune with your besties is, at least in part, a hyper independent trauma response. At some point, we’ve got to begin where we are. At some point, we’ve got to learn to work with our neighbors, imperfect as they may be. Extending grace to ourselves and to others is a practice.
