Breckenridge Texan The Breckenridge Texan is an online news site covering the community of Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, and the surrounding area.

The Breckenridge Texan was founded in August 2017 by Breckenridge journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown. They drew on the input of many other local citizens when planning the website and its contents. The Breckenridge Texan will provide current news, entertainment and sports information. Pilkington and McKeown have extensive media experience, including daily, semi-weekly and weekly newspap

ers, blogs, websites and radio. Before moving to Breckenridge in 2002, the husband and wife published Lubbock Magazine, a monthly arts and entertainment publication. They also have freelanced for publications including Texas Highways, the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, the Associated Press and many others. They look forward to continuing their journalism careers by providing Breckenridge, Texas, with the best news site possible.

The 2026 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive continues today in the Breckenridge Medical Center parking lot, 101 S. Hartford St., where the Carter BloodCare bus is set up until 4 p.m. today, Friday, June 5. Walk-ins are welcome. All donors can cast their vote for their favorite first responders group. The winners get bragging rights for the next year.

The Stephens County 4-H kids are holding a trade show on the courthouse lawn until 2 p.m. today, Friday, June 5. They are selling everything from jewelry and candles to baked goods and home-canned products. There are paintings, pottery, collectibles, clothing, plants, fresh eggs and more. During the lunch hour, there will be live music. There's also games for kids to play and an opportunity to take pictures with a couple of baby goats. The 4-H members have been working on their businesses all year, learning about entrepreneurship.

The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is underway until 4 p.m. today, Thursday, June 4, at Texas State Technical College, 307 N. Breckenridge Ave., room 103. The blood drive, hosted by the Rotary Club of Breckenridge and Carter BloodCare, will continue on Friday, June 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Hospital/Breckenridge Medical Center, 101 S.
