Looking Back, 39 Years of DJing

Technically, my first paid DJ gig was back in 1986, spinning tunes (more like duel cassette boombox with mic infront of the speakers) at the Teen Center in Dickinson, ND while staying with my aunt and uncle over the summer. Through my junior high and high school years, I was always the one running the stereo at parties, music was just my thing.

By New Year’s Eve 1992, I was DJing full-blown house parties, and I’ve kept the music going ever since. That’s 39 years of DJing in one form or another, basically since I was 11 years old.

As I rebrand Sean Rumble Productions, I can’t help but reflect on this incredible journey.

Another incredible wedding in the books!

The day started with pouring rain, but as soon as the ceremony began, the sun broke through, it couldn’t have been more perfect.

The couple gave me about 12 song suggestions, and from there I built a 4-hour non-stop dance floor. It wasn’t your “typical” playlist, it was a carefully crafted flow where every track connected seamlessly.

I don’t rely on pre-made playlists. I gather the right songs, then read the crowd and mix live. When guests request a song, that one track can spark a new direction and keep the energy going for another 45 minutes straight.

That’s the difference: music knowledge and experience, not cost, is what makes a wedding unforgettable.

3rd wedding in a row!!

I truly love what I do. This wedding was extra special, a celebration for a friend’s son and daughter-in-law, with a little referral discount included. I never expect tips, but they’re always deeply appreciated.

What makes this even more meaningful is the connection: years ago, I DJ’d a wedding for this same group, and since then, I’ve been honored to book 9 more weddings from that very first event. That’s the power of relationships and word-of-mouth.
