Amendment opens Haralson property to data center alternatives

Haralson County residents came out in full force Tuesday as the board of commissioners voted to amend an intergovernmental agreement affecting land that could potentially house a data center.

The IGA between the board of commissioners and the Haralson County Development Authority was initially approved in early 2026.

“That’s what the amendment tonight does, to open it to beyond a data center to many other uses — manufacturing, warehousing, etc.,” Ryan Farmer said. “I understand the confusion. I understand the concern. I want to make very clear, we are not approving a data center tonight. We are not denying a data center tonight.”

Editor's Note: The headline in the print version of this story that comes out tomorrow is misleading and was printed in error. The amendment opens up the property to other types of potential developments, in addition to data centers.
