Derek Eugene Vincent of Bremen pleaded guilty to charges of child molestation and aggravated s*xual battery earlier this week in Haralson County Superior Court. He received a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

On May 27, 2026, the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Treat Mountain Road in reference to the remains of an unidentified male. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia DNR, and Polk County Police Department responded to assist in the investigation. Treat Mountain Road covers Haralson and Polk Counties. This is an active and ongoing investigation, so no additional information can be released at this time, but we can assure our citizens that there is no active threat to the public.

Authorities said when first responders arrived, a 39-year-old male and a 34-year-old female were found dead inside the residence. This is a developing story and will be updated.

Two people have been found dead at River Pointe Apartments in what the Carrollton Police Department is calling a murder-suicide.

Ellie McGill, a 2025 graduate of Bremen High School, has been named winner of the Glenn A. & Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.

BREAKING: The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of Sgt. John Johnson.

Sheriff Stacy Williams sorrowfully announces the sudden passing of Sergeant John Johnson, who suffered a medical emergency and died on duty today, May 1, 2026. Sergeant Johnson had been with the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. He began his career as a patrol deputy, later became an investigator, and for the last 10 years, he was attached to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as a Drug Task Force Agent.

“I ask that the citizens join me in praying for his wife and children as they deal with the immense loss of a husband and father,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “John was a valued employee and a friend to many in this office. We mourn the loss of one of our own, and we want his family to know that we are here for them during this heartbreaking time.”
