Wisdom and understanding are the power tools God gives us in His Word. When you have these, God can guide you. Without wisdom and understanding, life becomes a long-term guessing game. Take a Bible break. 💜

No one promised us a trouble-free life. In fact, in the book of Job, AKA the man who knew trouble on steroids, we find this verse:

"Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward." (Job 5:7)

We are not the first to wonder how long something will go on, especially when it's painfully hard. It's even worse when we brought the trouble on ourselves. Either way, wallowing in self-pity increases the pain.

Need to confess? Do it. Need more patience? Practice it. Hoping for a change? Pray for it.

REMEMBER: You've seen God answer prayer before. He'll do it again. God is not finished yet.

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit." (Ecclesiastes 7:8) 💜

Reading the Bible without applying the principles is like taking Driver's Ed but never getting behind the wheel of a car. You'll know things, but you're not using the knowledge.

Many self-inflicted problems are directly related to a lack of Bible application. This leads to a life filled with cleaning up avoidable messes. Abandon this broken system.

Bible reading leads to Bible study. Bible study is meant to take us to Bible application. Don't stop short. Read. Study. Apply.

"Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge." (Proverbs 23:12)

Grab your Bible and call your furbaby. Sit together in a favorite spot and share some Quiet Time with God. This could become habit-forming. Maybe you've already formed the habit. Do whatever it takes to have your daily time in the Word. Watch God use it to settle your soul. And who knows? Maybe your furbaby will stop chewing on things that aren't food. 😁

"Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors." (Proverbs 8:34)

Something said by a friend can and does impact our thinking.

Have you ever gotten shaky about biblical principles because of something someone wrote or said? Are you following their pattern? Questionable influence.

Have you drawn closer to God because of something someone wrote or said? Is their pattern Christlike? Good influence.

Be selective about who gets a spot in your inner circle. Unwise friends stunt growth. Wise friends inspire it.

"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20)

Read the verse again slowly. Notice that it begins with the giant 2-letter word: "If."

Be a peace-loving peacemaker whenever it's possible. This will not be 100% of the time in a perfectly imperfect world.

We're not aiming for perfection. Our job is to do our best to live peaceably with anyone who will allow it. It's possible.

"If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." (Romans 12:18)

Wisdom and understanding are twin gifts from God that help us learn what to do, when to do it, and how. It's like having two bank accounts full of more funds than you could spend in your lifetime.

Unhappiness does not have to be a permanent parking spot. If you don't like how your life has been going, more wisdom and understanding are needed. God can help you with that.

"Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." (Proverbs 3:13)

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7)

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!" (Proverbs 16:16)

"Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee." (Proverbs 9:8)

"Reprove not" means "Do not."

Teachback Tuesday: "Do Not Correct a Scorner." This is a touchy area. We need to handle people with grace and godly care. Sometimes this means that we'll have to cover our eyes AND close our mouths.

The most effective words for a scorner are spoken to God in prayer.

Listen to this episode, and then pray for wisdom to lovingly interact with the person stuck in the scorner ditch. It could happen to any of us. All it takes is pain. P.S. Do not post comments like, "My child is a scorner!" They can read. That won't help.

What a sacrifice. Read the Gospel accounts before church on Sunday. Sobering reminders of what love really looks like.

Jesus died, but His resurrection was more powerful than His death. God raised Jesus from the dead. And people saw Jesus alive after death.

He thought we were to die for. And He did.

"And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from the dead: and he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people."
(Acts 13:29-31)

"The Golden Rule" still rules.

We can choose how we're going to treat others, regardless of what they do or say. It's not a "get even" contest.

It's about the example.

So, how do you like to be treated? Model it.

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (Matthew 5:9)

Did you do something great? Have you finally hit a goal? Are you experiencing a season of great blessings? Wonderful. Now have been tooting your own horn about it?

Not so wonderful.

Thank the Lord. It's HIS glory. As we grow in Him, He does make it possible for us to do more than we ever did without Him. It is HIS transforming power coming to light in our lives.

The world says, "Affirm yourself." God says, "Humble yourself."

Don't praise the self. Self is already proud enough. Humility is an essential ingredient to spiritual growth.

"Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips." (Proverbs 27:2)

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." (Matthew 23:12)
