In Memoriam: Hal H. Hopson (1933–2025)
With deep respect and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of Hal H. Hopson—a towering figure in sacred music whose influence has shaped generations of church musicians around the world.
A remarkably prolific composer, arranger, and editor, Hal Hopson published more than 3,000 works during his distinguished career, including anthems, hymn settings, cantatas, and liturgical music for choirs of all ages and abilities. His music is marked by craftsmanship, accessibility, and an abiding commitment to enriching the worship life of the church.
Hal was not only a gifted artist but also a passionate teacher, speaker, and advocate for congregational song. His enduring influence will be felt for years to come through the voices of choirs, the hearts of worshipers, and the ongoing ministry of music in the church.
