Hey Zonuts,
I know this update is years overdue and I apologize. But I thought it would be appropriate since this is the seventh anniversary of when I first got together with Lacey and Josh to discuss the possibility of making a movie about her life.
At that time, I told them that something like this could take five months to put together or five years to put together. Well, here we are seven years later and we are still not in production. That’s not for a lack of trying, trust me. However, when you are trying to get an independent movie made, you are heavily reliant on investors and distributors and other producers to make it all happen.
You can go about it two different ways. You can approach investors first and then make the movie and go to distributors. But many times, investors want to make sure you have distribution locked up. You could go to the distributors, but they want to make sure that you’re going to be able to make the film. So you end up in a Catch-22 scenario. With Lacey, I had a lot of connections with distributors, producers and other production companies in the business. Everybody that I’ve talked to you about her movie loved the story, loved the script, but the faith based companies said that the movie was too heavy and too dark. The secular companies said that the movie was too faith-based. So this movie kept falling in the crevice of both worlds. Even though we never set out to make a faith-based movie, you can’t get away from that element part of her story. And truth be told, the faith based film industry desperately needs more realistic, dark, and heavy movies that show real people going through real tough times and having God rescue them. I think we need far more of films like Lacey's than we do other, feel good Christian films. I’m not saying there’s not a place for wishy-washy Christian films in the media. I’m just saying, as far as being inspirational, touching the hearts of people that went through similar circumstances that Lacey went through will make a greater impact than somebody that just has a nice story to tell.
Let’s flash forward to 2026, where we are at now. When we first set out to make the movie, we all looked at each other saying that this is going to be like the Lord of the Rings Extended Cut LOL. It could’ve easily been a five hour movie. But you can’t do that. However, you can spread the story out over eight episodes for a full season and tell the whole story the way it should be told. And I always thought that we weren't doing Lacey's story justice by limiting it to a 2-hour movie (there's just so much to her story that her being saved). So I have this idea to re-tool the story into a multi-part series that would include other stories besides Lacey‘s. It's still in the early stages of development, so there is not much to report on there yet.
Lacey, Josh and I have been trying for the last few months to align our schedules to get together to talk about things. So I have no idea right now whether they will be on board with this or not. Even if they are, it’s still going to be an uphill battle to sell this to anybody who thinks that this is a great idea.
Most people know this about me, I don’t give up very easily. I'm as tenacious as they come, and I will find a way with all the resources I have and beyond to get Lacey's story made because it needs to be told.
I’m just being open and honest and transparent about where things are at seven years later. I have people emailing me and sending me DM‘s all of the time asking what’s going on. So I thought it would be appropriate to throw out an update to everybody. I know it’s not the message that everybody wants to hear, but maybe in someway you can still how old out hope that this is going to happen.
What I need from you are your prayers more than anything. And if you happen to know anybody who is interested in investing in a project like this, reach out to me. I’d love to have a conversation.
Thank you all for hanging in there. God Willing, there will be more updates to come!
God bless!
