The child rescued from Looking Glass Falls over the weekend was a pr***en boy. He was caught on the other side of the base of the falls during a flash flood.

Mason Randall Near a 14 year old male last seen around 3:45 pm this date at his home on Pisgah Forest Drive in the Pisgah Forest Community. Mr. Near is believed to have ran away and has not returned home. Mr Near is believed to be traveling on foot.

Date of Birth: 01/07/2011

Last Seen Wearing: Blue Jeans, gray t shirt, brown boots, and the trucker hat shown in the picture.

Height: 6’2

Weight: 150 lbs

Apparently Sheriff Owenby has found time in his busy schedule to call several of our fine residents and tell them they must pay this office a thousand dollars for missing jury duty.

Well as much as we like to take your hard earned money and book extravagant vacations we simply can’t do that!

No one from Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office including Sheriff Owenby himself will ever call you and demand you pay money for missing jury duty!

In fact the only role Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office plays in the jury process is sending out the letters to inform you that you have been selected for jury duty, the rest is up to the judge!
