Catching the Drift: An Angler’s Journey to Divine

Matthew Gutchess has been obsessed with fish and the places they call home since, at age four, he caught sunfish with his grandfather with his trusty Zebco 33. Since then, Matt has fished all over North America, including the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and Caribbean Sea. He is not a species snob and loves to fish for anything that swims, from Carp to Steelhead.

After his Army enlistment ended, he returned to his home state of New York and took his passion to the next level to become a fishing guide and charter captain on Lake Ontario and the world-famous Oswego and Salmon rivers.

At age 45, Matt found out who his biological father was, and the life-changing events that followed started a spiritual awakening that led him to becoming a Reiki Master and writer. Fishing took on a deeper meaning and satisfaction for Matt as the awakening progressed, and he discovered a very real connection between fishing and the spirituality that he’d always felt but had been unable articulate.
