Tennessee’s Historic Old Jailhouses Road Trip takes you inside six eerie former jails where stone walls once held criminals but now preserve history. At Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros, explore cell blocks, solitary confinement, and even a prison distillery. The Old Jail Museum in Wi******er (1893–1973) holds Civil War relics and Dinah Shore memorabilia. In Jamestown, Ye Ole Jail Museum showcases original sandstone cells. Huntsville’s Scott County Jail (1904) offers true-crime exhibits and flashlight tours. The Moore County Old Jail Museum in Lynchburg operated until 1990 and now displays artifacts. Finally, Shelbyville’s limestone Rock House Jail (1866) endures as one of Tennessee’s most secure historic lockups.
