Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jackson Browne, 1982. In July, 1982 Stevie Ray and Double Trouble played at the Montreaux Music Festival in Switzerland. It proved to be the turning point in Stevie's career. At the festival, Stevie met Jackson Browne. Browne and most of his band jammed with SRV and DT all night long. “We jammed until seven a.m.," said Chris Layton, Double Trouble's drummer. Jackson was apparently blown away by Stevie's talent. "When we were done, Jackson said that he had a studio in L.A. and we were welcome to come record tracks free of charge any time.” That turned into three days of studio time in Jackson's studio and those sessions became Stevie Ray's first album, Texas Flood, released in 1983.
This photo was kindly sent in by Traces of Texas reader Mark Stinson and I can't believe I've never seen it before. What a historic meeting! Thank you, Mark!
