HAWAII FACES FLOOD THREAT AS TROPICAL DEPRESSION MOKE PASSES SOUTH

Tropical Depression Moke is moving westward south of Hawaiʻi, but the threat isn’t over yet. The National Weather Service says moisture on Moke’s northern side is bringing periods of heavy rain to the Big Island today.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon for the Big Island. Another 2–4 inches of rain could fall across windward and southeast slopes, where the ground is already saturated from recent heavy rainfall.

Flood-prone roads, low-lying areas and streams could quickly become dangerous. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roads.

MID-ATLANTIC FLOOD THREAT — HEAVY RAIN TARGETS THE EAST COAST

A weather setup is unfolding across parts of the Mid-Atlantic, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms affecting areas around Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and the I-95 corridor.

The National Weather Service warned that thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall capable of causing isolated flash flooding, particularly where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.

Urban streets, poor-drainage locations and low-lying areas could see water rise quickly.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around — never drive through floodwater.

The threat is expected to ease as the front moves east.

CHICAGO & MIDWEST ON ALERT: SEVERE STORMS COULD HIT THIS AFTERNOON

The National Weather Service Chicago is warning that strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana later today.

Main threats include:

💨 Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph

🧊 Large hail

🌪️ An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out

🌧️ Heavy downpours with localized flooding and poor visibility

The highest severe weather risk is expected west of the Fox Valley and north of Interstate 80. If you're traveling, stay weather-aware and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions.

NORTHEAST WEATHER AFTERMATH — TORNADO DAMAGE CONFIRMED IN PENNSYLVANIA

The Northeast is assessing storm damage after severe thunderstorms moved through the region on August 20.

The National Weather Service in State College has confirmed that a tornado caused damage near Wrightsville in York County, Pennsylvania. Meteorologists are continuing their storm-damage survey into Lancaster County.

The tornado’s final strength, track length and additional details are still being determined as the survey continues.

Residents in affected areas should use caution around damaged buildings, downed debris and potentially unsafe structures while recovery efforts continue.

SOUTHWEST MONSOON STORMS CONTINUE — FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE

Monsoon moisture remains active across parts of Arizona and the Desert Southwest, with thunderstorms capable of producing sudden heavy rainfall, gusty winds and localized flash flooding.

The National Weather Service says moisture will continue supporting afternoon and evening thunderstorms, while dangerous heat remains a concern across the region.

Around the Phoenix area, afternoon temperatures could reach approximately 103–109°F, with hotter conditions possible in the days ahead.

If thunderstorms develop, drivers should use extra caution around normally dry washes, low-water crossings and other flood-prone locations. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.

HURRICANE LALA RAPIDLY STRENGTHENS IN THE CENTRAL PACIFIC

Hurricane Lala has rapidly intensified into a Category 3 major hurricane, with maximum sustained winds reaching 125 MPH, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is now moving west-northwest away from Hawaii, but dangerous hurricane conditions remain a major concern across parts of the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. A hurricane warning is in effect for affected areas.

Lala is being closely monitored as forecasters track its strength and movement across the Central Pacific.

Residents, mariners and anyone in potentially affected areas should rely on official updates from the National Hurricane Center and local National Weather Service offices — not unverified social-media forecasts.

TEXAS & SOUTHERN PLAINS: STORMS COULD BRING HEAVY RAIN & GUSTY WINDS

Thunderstorm activity remains possible across parts of West Texas and the Southern Plains, with the strongest storms capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

The Midland–Odessa area remains one of the more active spots, with storm chances continuing across western portions of the region before drier and slightly warmer conditions return later this week.

If you're heading outdoors this afternoon or evening, keep an eye on changing skies and local weather alerts. Lightning and sudden downpours can develop quickly.

TROPICAL STORM LALA CONTINUES TO IMPACT HAWAII

Tropical Storm Lala is bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds and dangerous surf to parts of Hawaii, with forecasters warning that flooding remains a serious concern.

The Big Island and Maui are among the areas facing heightened flood concerns, while additional heavy rain could affect Oahu, Kauai and Niihau.

With some areas already saturated, intense rainfall may overwhelm drainage systems and produce flash flooding, especially near streams, low-lying roads and vulnerable communities.

Never drive through flooded roads. Even shallow moving water can be dangerous.

INDIANA FLOOD EMERGENCY — RECORD WHITE RIVER FLOODING

Central Indiana is facing a dangerous flood emergency as the White River continues to overflow, leaving neighborhoods underwater and forcing widespread evacuations.

Authorities report severe flooding across Indianapolis, Hamilton County, Delaware County, and Tipton County, with emergency crews carrying out dozens of water rescues. Officials have also confirmed at least five fatalities linked to the severe weather, as recovery efforts continue across the state.

Even though rainfall is beginning to ease, forecasters warn that river levels will remain dangerously high for days. Residents are urged to never drive through flooded roads, follow local emergency alerts, and stay away from rapidly rising waterways.

HAWAII ON ALERT AS TROPICAL STORM LALA APPROACHES

Hawaii is facing a dangerous weekend as Tropical Storm Lala moves toward the islands, with the latest National Weather Service guidance warning of significant impacts across Hawaii.
