Happy New Year, Golden!
As we ring in the new year, please help keep our community safe. Fireworks are not permitted in the City of Golden, and fire restrictions remain in effect for both the City and Jefferson County. With dry conditions, even small sparks can cause big problems.

Celebrate safely, look out for one another, and here’s to a bright (and spark-free) year ahead.

It’s been a “the-only-constant-in-life-is-change” type of year for the Colorado Trust for Local News.

From a mid-year tweak in our coverage areas to staff changes and more, one thing has stayed consistent: sports along the Front Range have continued to deliver some of the best stories of the year.

As we look back on the last 12 months, it’s hard not to include dozens of stories on our Best of 2025 list.

FULL STORY:

Sports consistently prove that success on the court, field, mat, track, etc., doesn’t always look the same. The best stories often come from shortcomings or adversity, and sports is the perfect battleground for those sentiments to rise to the top.

Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset.

As the song says, swiftly fly the years; one season following another, laden with happiness and tears.

And just like that, seemingly in the blink of an eye, Goldenites are more than halfway through the decade and more than a quarter of the way through the 21st century.

2025 was an interesting year for the community, with plenty of highs and lows, challenges and triumphs.

HERE'S OUR "YEAR IN REVIEW" SECTION FOR 2025:

There could be some changes to the state’s pitch count rules in high school baseball. The limits could change depending on the time of the season.

However, CHSAA’s baseball committee had questions about how coaches could implement new pitch-count rules and whether pitchers could or should throw pitches – and how many – on successive days.

Instead, the committee recommended a delay to study the issue. If it’s approved, it wouldn’t take effect until the 2028 season.

🔥 One Spark Can Burn a Park.

🎇 Please Enjoy Professional Firework Displays.

Remember that FIREWORKS, OPEN FIRES, AND CHARCOAL GRILLS ARE NOT PERMITTED on any Open Space property and violations are strictly enforced. High temperatures and low relative humidity, combined with sustained winds are a recipe for disaster when it comes to fire danger. Protect our parks and our communities by adhering to the Open Space regulations.

During the public safety power shutdown, both fire stations experienced power outages as well and utilized emergency power generators to remain operational! These generators automatically take over when one of the stations experiences a power outage.

During the PSPS both station saw a large influx of 911 calls for power related problems. We continued to respond and serve our community in different ways. We supported our local assisted living communities with moving patients and ensuring an uninterrupted oxygen supply for those dependent on supplemental oxygen. Both Wednesday and Friday crews up staffed brush trucks to be ready to respond to any wildfire in Golden or surrounding areas.
